My truck is in the shop having my new SBC 13" conversion clutch/flywheel installed (I know I should do it myself, mea culpa, mea culpa, ... . ) and I get a call letting me know the front fuel tank strap is broken (missing actually) and the tank is tilting a bit.

My search only turned up one thread dealing with a broken, but still in place rear strap; not really applicable to my situation, but then what is.

I guess this is a dealer only item; any thoughts out there?

TurboSandman,

I doubt that there are aftermarket straps available but if you can find a friendly, smaller salvage yard they might take the time to sell a used one. The straps are discarded when the used tanks are sold. If you are willing to do it yourself, it is a simple matter to fabricate a the strap but really I suspect that they aren't all that costly from Dodge. Good luck, Larry

e-mail me your address... I have a spare off a 98. 5 3500. . should be the same strap

I'll send it soon [been taking care of my wife who is passing kidney stones . . been a couple weks so far] but I can get it within a weekor so , along with the front beauty ring for another TDR guy ...

put a temp heavy wire to hold it up.

Thanks all; I checked with a local dealer after I posted and ordered a new one for $22. 00. It should be here tomorrow.

It is probably expensive for a steel strap, but cheap compared to dropping my tank on a busy highway; at speed.

Willyslover; thank you for your generous offer, you are one of the reasons this forum works so well. I pray your wife's health improves soon; passing a kidney stone can be one of the most severe pains known.

I had the back strap break on my 97 3550 when I was going down the road. The back of the tank dragged on the ground for a while till I ran out of fuel (tank was full) . The dealer was not going to warrantee it at first. I said I don't think so, it's a safety hazzard. They did warrantee it with a new tank. DC should warrantee yours but since it's just the strap, I would just take care of it myself also.
