I filled the wiper fluid and check my oil yesterday and as I was putting the hood down the passenger side hood spring mounting arm (the flat bar that connects the spring to the hood plate) snapped just below the mounting bolt.

I've got about 230,000 miles on the truck. Is anyone else experiencing this type of failure with this type of mileage?

I'm seeing a few used spring/hinge sets available on ebay.

1) Are the hinges the same for all 2001 models (1500/2500/3500)?

2) Is this a common occurrence on veh. with this type of mileage (i. e. , it isn't worth buying used with unknown mileage)?

3) Is this a DIY job or should I let my someone with something more than hand tools tackle this?

Thanks

The hinges from any second gen should work, and I have never heard of one breaking before. You do have to spray some lube on the pivot points every now and then. As for DIY, don't know. Depends on the tools and friends you have. Two buddies to lift the hood on and off while you wrench should work.

Forget mine, they're now junk. Storm blew the hood up on the truck last night and bent both of them.
