Just driving home, minding my own business, took off from a stop sign about a mile from my house, ran it up through the gears , third gear and a little acceleration and BANG! I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER! I was able to coast to about 1 block from home. It won't pull itself in any gear and tried engaging the 4wd too. I think that the input shaft went bye bye. Anybody else have any other ideas? I'll be taking it apart tonight. Also, does anyone have a line on replacement parts?

Could be the input shaft or output shaft in the transmission, could also be the input shaft to the transfer case. Could also be the hub of the clutch broken out. I have seen all of these happen at one time or another on a 4x4 and act as you describe. I have also seen the tail of the crank break off a BB Ford, but I think the chances of that are insanely remote with a Cummins crank. You should be hearing some sort of a grinding or rubbing sound when you let the clutch out in gear though.

Standard Transmission in Texas gets high marks from the members for good service and having what you need on the shelf. Hope this helps.

One other thing that I didn't mention the first time. I could not get the transmission to shift unless I shut the engine off first. I believe that the problem is most likely in the bell housing. I just got it home but could not get it into the garage where I can work on it. I'll get some help tomorrow and get it in there. This will be the third time I've had the transmission out so I am getting good at it:rolleyes: I guess if there's an up side to all this, if I do actually need a new input shaft, I'll now have a good alignment tool:eek:

With the additional information it is more than likely the clutch hub broken out or the pressure plate is somehow jammed up/broken. The good news is that is a lot easier to fix than the shafts.
