Leon:
Welcome to the TDR Website!
As to your question about "how common is
it for the input shaft to fail on the auto
trans?"
Well let me say that I have never had
one fail and I am WAY above stock H. P.
and torque. However, two people who I
highly respect have had them fail. They
are Piers Harry at "BD" and Dan Scheid
at "Scheid Diesel. " Both of these guys
have trucks that are pumping out more
H. P. /Torque than I am, above 400 H. P.
and near 1100 Torque. I know both of
them had one failure each.
You are right, BOMBING does put more
stress on the shafts! Dan Scheid warned
me about them after all my "mods" last
year. If I remember right Dan had his
failure while towing a heavy trailer up
a hill under "hard" acceleration.
I try to be careful, but I know it could
still happen. I'm sorry "Murphy's Law"
got you. It may get me too, however, my
truck has been "out of warranty" for quite
awhile now. To be honest with you, I'm
glad. It may cost me but at least I don't
have to "fight" D/C for a repair.
Take care!
