Well last night my truck got broken into over at a friends apartment complex and they poked a hole below the door handle to gain access to the lock mechanism then busted the column open. They were unable to get the truck (thankfully). My question is now. The truck will start and run fine... but then shuts down about 3 seconds later. How do I reset the truck so I can atleast get the truck around without using a tow truck? Do I pull the battery cables to reset? Help and angered man out! Thanks in advance! Gotta love AZ! #1 in car theft in the nation!

which key do you have, the black or the gray one? if it is gray and they hacked up the wiring then the Computer may not be reading the SKIM module. that sounds exactly like what it is supposed to do w/o the Grey key. Does it give any codes?

I purchased a set of metal plates that go around the door handle from the inside to keep the screwdriver trick under the handle from working. I got them from Ebay. I havent got them on yet, but look pretty easy to install. I have heard this happening often. Sorry about your break in. Unhook your battery cables for a couple of minutes and see if that resets your computer.

My 2005 has Sentry Key and that is what it is supposed to do (the shut down thing) when a start is attempted without the proper key. I know for 2006 the keys are different, but are they still Sentry Key? I'll bet the thiefs tried to get it and that system stopped them (you'd think they would know that in advance, but I guess not).

You may have to call a dealer to at least get the story.

I have Sentry Key on my Jeep also, and at one point when I thought I had lost the key, they said I would have to have it towed to the dealer.

How's that for very little help? :D

Sucks that now you'll have to get body work on the door, etc though.

#@$%! HHMmmm, number 1 in car theft, number 1 in illegal immigration, Nogales, Agua Prieta are known hot spots for chop shops, anybody see a connection here?

JRD. What a bummer!! Glad to hear their attempt was halted. I'd try the battery disconnect, or just pull the fuse to the ECM? might work for you. Otherwise you may need a towtruck. It would be considered part of your repair needs with your insurance company.

Suprmn. Can you give a link to the plates? Would be an excellent idea to install them. You would still have damage in the attempted theft, but that would certainly stop it before they could do any more damage anywhere else.

CD

FYI- I also have an 06 in PHX and my truck was broken into the same way during an attempted theft about a month ago. They didn't get mine either, but it was in the dealer for a week and cost me $500 deductible...

also, anyone know where I can get those plates to install in the door to prevent breakins- I searched ebay, but no luck.

I had the Sentry key and it did exactly what it was designed to do. Pulling the battery cables and such did not work. So I called Dodge and they said that was the Sentry key doing its thing. So if anyone of you have it, it makes a life a little easier on you. On the other hand I still have a hole in my door and my column is destroyed... So Im pretty bummed. Plus now I got to pay the 500 deductable... so I can kiss my exhaust good bye for a little while :( Thanks for all your support and help guys. I will DEFINATLY be looking into those plates Suprmn suggested. Keep your trucks locked and a close eye on them at all times guys, I dont want any of you to have to deal with such garbage.

That sucks. I hate the feeling of coming out to finding your baby hurt like that. Thats most of the reason I became a security installer. Time for a alarm with a two way remote control so you can monitor your truck from inside and you'll know about it in 2 seconds flat.

My '98 was broken into that way, sux Dodge can't come up with a better handle design. Put the Jimmi jammers on my '06. It might get beat up but hopefully will keep out the punks.

My truck is STILL out of comission... CLynch what are those Jimmi Jammers you are referring to? I agree that Dodge must know about this door handle problem yet they do nothing... install those door handle plates from the factory, it would cost what, an extra 15 cents to have someone toss them on before they throw the door on the truck? Also, I cant seem to find a column lock for this truck. I looked into a company called CarGard. I had one of their units on an older chevy of mine that worked great. But nothing for the Dodges of my model/year. Maybe Ill have to make one of my own... Has anyone seen a column lock for these trucks? It wraps around the steering column and works excellent as a theft deterrent.

Even with the Jimmy Jammers to slow them down, wouldn't the punks then just smash a window to gain access? It's hard to say where we should draw the $$$$ line when trying to protect our babies.

Sorry to hear about the breakink, JRD. Arizona seems to have mucho car thefts, especially trucks. Kinda makes me glad I'm on the northern border instead of the southern.
