I've got a new one for you. Last year a friend was in a rough spot and I let him borrow my truck for a few days, with the explicit understanding that he was the only one to drive it, not he wife or the teenage son. Well, I went over about a week later and his wife pulls in with the truck and it is pouring diesel out from under the hood. She assures me that everything is ok and it has only been doing it for a couple of days. I drive the truck straight home and the rubber return line is split. No biggie.

BUT, the engine is also missing a bit. I take it for a short drive after replacing the hose and about a block from the house there is a small pop and the engine starts running very rough. I limp it home and, after some detecting, find that the #1 cylinder doesn't seem to be firing :{. I removed the valve cover to check the rocker, spring and valve. All were fine, but then I noticed something, a small shiny spot. The pushrod cup was next to the adjuster ball. I pointed it out to my buddy that was helping saying that I must have a bent pushrod. He grabbed it and pulled out 1/2 of the pushrod:eek:. We were able to remove the lower portion of the pushrod and replace it. I ordered a full set of new pushrods and replaced them all. None of the others were bent or appeared to be damaged. My assumption is that the engine may have been over-revved, causing to piston to contact the valve, bending the pushrod. The pushrod appears to have been rubbing on the side of the pushrod hole until it couldn't take it any more and broke. Have any of you ever seen something like this. Any other thoughts on possible causes.

Only case I ever had that happen to me, was when you shove it in a very low gear when travelling very fast. I notice you say it is a 5 speed, that would be able to make that happen. I bet someone forgot just where the next lower gear was sometime.

He definitely would not be a friend of mine ever again. I hope you made the b****** pay for the f****up that he did to you're truck!

WITH FRIENDS LIKE THAT YOU SURE DON'T NEED ENEMIES

:D :D :D :D

LUCKY FOR YOU HE DIDN'T DO ANY SUPER SERIOUS DAMAGE.
