Any one know if the rear shock mount which bolts to the inside of the frame with four bolts is a common part to both 4X4 and 2WD trucks?

How about 2500 to 3500? I'm assuming 94 - 2002 would be the same? Yes / No?

The right rear actually fatigue cracked into two pieces  - The top shock mount then was no longer attached to the truck and was causing a squeak. I think it was due to an accident 7 years ago where the axle got shoved forward in a weird accident (drunk driver hit the outside dually tire (missed the rear of the truck) with a Ford van at 55 mph with me being stationary in a left hand turn lane) - it's a two wheel drive dually so it does not see off road nor have I been towing anything.

Anybody have a replacement part off a wrecked truck?

:)

Thanks

Can it be welded or is the bracket completely gone?

If the bracket is gone im sure it can be ordered at the dealer, my guess is it is 40 bucks or so... Otherwise with some good 1/8 inch steel you could fabricate a bracket for whatever labor it takes. I would not recommend cutting it off of a wrecked truck since it is already stressed, unless you cannot buy it new or dont want to fabricate one...

Unless you are exprienced with welding on frames, don't do it. I would also not recomend welding any suspension component, replace it. The mount is probably held in with rivits, which can be drilled/ground off. The replacement mount is probably held in with gr8 bolts and should be available from any autobody/sheetmetal dealer. There is a place near me called Parker Sheetmetal. I know that they would have it (if not in stock, they would have access to it) for less than the dealer.

I agree with EBottema, don't buy a used one, because it will have been stressed, just get a new one.

Guys,

The whole bracket 'bolts' to the frame. It is a take off piece - not welded to the frame. Mine looks like it sustained a hairline crack when the axle was knocked forward 7 years ago and due to the wax undercoating applied in Mexico, it was not noticed when the repairs were made. Over the years, it finally cracked the bracket in two halves, which allowed the part to fatigue and bend. It's not worth trying to repair since it is a bolt on piece.

Anyone have access to a frame from a wreck?

Cheers,

Try Car-parts.com, a big auto wrecker listing site... I bought some stuff from this guy in south dakota. Hes got a few rams, His name is Vern at Meyers Auto. # is 1800-888-3809... Very nice guy who speaks english and prices are more than fair. Check the dealer too since it will be a new part...
