While replacing the bushings on my front shocks today, I snapped a shock tower bolt. Haveing read a few posts here about just that happening, I dailed down the torque but it stilled happened. #@$%! Has anyone seen a coil spring compresser that would allow the spring to be removed with out having to dissasemble the front end? Also, is it safe to drive the truck until i can get new bolts and replace them?

You can replace the bolt ring (the "bolts" are all connected to a ring) without a spring compressor. Just unbolt the shocks and the sway bar links and jack up the frame. If you know anyone who has done a spacer type of front lift should have the rings lying around.

On my 94 I up graded to a 7/16 stud to eliminate that risk, but now you can go even bigger by using a Carli ring that uses 1/2 studs.

Thanks for the info... just finished replacing the ring. Wasn't too hard... . used a HD nylon tiedown strap and a chain (for a little extra safety) to hold the spring as I let the axle down. The spring came right out.

Everyone's input is always so helpful.
