So, went with my brother this weekend to return an leather jacket he got for christmas. We stopped by a Dodge dealership with a print out of one of the ad's on eBay Like This one!!! . Well, at the first dealership we got laughed at, and told that the dealer has more in the truck than that, and there is no way they can sell them for this. So, we went on to the second dealer; looking for a "used one". They showed us an '05 Laramie, 25K miles for $34,995. Ok, so then we said, look dont laugh, if you cant do it, we are going to North Carolina. But, we have this here truck, and we are going to buy it from them, but really dont want to, we want to buy it close to home. So, he took the print out to his boss and the usual psychological game started. To make a long story short they had to hit some goals (Supposedly), and we were told we could pick anything out on the lot and they would sell it for "Dead Invoice". So we almost brought home a Mega Cab, but ended up picking out a Charcoal Crew Cab, Shortie, 2500. Very nice truck, not 100% of the options but most of them! For 34,888; but we didnt walk out of there for that $$$, he bought some gap coverage, and Tax. So, we spent 4 hours waiting on paperwork, and detail, and sirius raido activation, and filling up with Diesel. It was a great deal (I thought); and I couldnt believe that just any dealer would deal like that if you threw it down and was like, look heres what I can get, now you have a decision to make Mr. Dealer. I will try to grab some pics and post tonight.

The dealer makes money off you regardless of the "invoice" price. Holdback, financing incentives, future service work, etc.

Either way, 35K for a pretty well decked out '06 Laramie is a pretty good deal.

Dealer's aren't wise if they aren't willing to make deals right around invoice price. They make their money elsewhere. Just like in most retail product sales, the money isn't made on the product itself but on the service and parts/upgrades for that product.

It's been said Microsoft is selling their new XBox 360's at around a $150 loss per unit. They make up for that by charging $60-70 for each game and all the add-ons.

That's why you can buy a cell phone for $0. 01. Some dealers have such a small allotment of turcks that they cannot afford to sell anywhere near invoice. They sell the few that they can get their hands on at near MSRP to the uneducated. It's a catch 22 because allotment is deterimined by volume, but you can't get the volume if you don't sell cheap enough.

What dealerships laughed at you??? I did just about the same thing at Palmer Dodge, Hubler Dodge and another one off the top of my head. Some dealerships want business some don’t.

Danville Chrysler was beyond the best dealership I have ever been to. I really am looking forward to buying another truck from them.

And Back On topic. Tell you brother Congrats. Ill try to keep an eye out for her around Indy. It might be hard not knowing what it looks like, but Ill try.

As you can imagine I have heard some stories after I quote a price and I encourage the person (usually a tdr member) to go try and match it at thier local dealer, heck, why drive to STL if you dont have to? Anyway, about 25% of the people I quote find a local dealer to come within $500

So if anyones want a quote just to beat up the local dealer, thats cool, just PM me and I can send you a signed spec sheet, etc - Works wonders when proving what other dealers can do. But beware, the other 75% have had to come to STL because the price was 1000+ better

I am guessing that was a good deal, most MC's are like 44K++, so anyway, tell your brother to have fun with his new truck!

Dealers need to change the old school style of selling, some realize it, like Tomeygun, many still do not. With the internet and a couple hours of research you can pretty much pick what you want, and pick your price, just as your brother did. We walked out of the dealership I bought the Mega from because they didn't want to meet my non-negotiable deal initially. Then I get a call from the GM wanting to "explain" things to me. I went in, told him what I wanted for my trades ('03 QC and '05 QC) and what I wanted to pay for the new truck. I got the money I wanted, they sold the '03 in one day and the '05 in one week. I know they made money, and I got what I wanted so everybody was happy. Not working with the customer is a fools game. Dealers that laugh you out the door wont last long.

Here they are

Here is a couple of pictures. A bit dark, but its hard going to work in the dark AND coming home in the dark!!!

The leather coat was returned, and he actually ended up spending $60 more on a different style of coat. So, it was a costly day!!!!

UPDATE:: We did do the first two "bombs" this weekend. Its been very busy, I will post some pics when I get home from work!!!! Untill then, I will let your minds wonder!!!

I am new but got what I thought was a good deal on my new 06 2500 4x4 QC CTD swb SLT... ... they had the sticker price and I was just looking and did not want to buy one until Spring... Got to dealer and sales guy said, I am not going to BS you... . I want your business... what can I do to make you drive home in my truck today.

So I told him something I thought he would not go for... Told him I wanted double my trade-in value on my 94 Cherokee 4x4..... plus another $6,000 off list price. He said he would see what he could do... 20 minutes later as I was about to walk off lot he came out with spec sheet and said if this works for you could you sign the bottom line. IT was better than I asked for actually..... so drove home in new truck that day at almost $9000 below MSRP. :-laf
