I bought the second to the last 2007, 5. 9 G56, short bed 4X4 that was for sale in 4 western states. Through the site, guys said to look for the "AE" coded G56. This truck was built in 12/16/06. I got to the dealer in Sacramento, Ca (300 miles away) and crawled under it to look at the trans tag. It is only the "A" code trans and has the . 79, 6th gear instead of the . 74, 6th. I was under the impression that all of the December 2006 builds had the AE code trans. I bought it anyhow. It is inferno red, Big Horn package with polished alloys on it. S-W-E-E-T! Got it for $33,180. 00 PLUS TAX AND LICENSE. $36,000 out the door. I paid that for my 01. 5 2wd 7 years ago. Big difference in gearing from my 01. 5 Auto with 3. 54 gears. (see sig below). I bought it to tow our travel trailer.

The "MARBLES" as my wife calls them were rolling around in my head all the way home as to what comes FIRST!!! I think that this 6th ratio may be just right with some larger diameter tires. The trip meter showed 19. 4 mpg from Sacramento to my home near Paso Robles (300mi).

My wife may take the 01. 5... ... She loves the power

Congratulations, I ordered a new 5500 with the 6. 7 in July, it was built and sitting in Mexico on the 1st of Aug... as of Friday it was still waiting on a spot on the rail car... ... .

Man, you got a great deal and the last of a breed of great trucks. I like my early G56. Works awesome for pulling my toy hauler, and you are right, with some taller tires, you will like it even more. FWIW I drove my buddies new 2500 with the 6. 7 and G56 and it really didn't make that much difference, maybe 3-5 mph difference than my truck. Good luck, hope your truck treats you as well as my truck is. Scotty

I live in SOuthern Calif ( Riverside Area) and when I bought my Inferno Red G-56 07 Big horn, there were 3 to choose from. Mine, a white one, and a black Laramie shorty. ALL had Mid Dec Build dates and ALL had the AE HIgher gear ratio. As of Last Friday they still had the white and black one!! If anyone is lookingm they are at MOss Brothers Dodge in MOreno Valley, CA.

COngrats on the new truck, very similar equipped Except ine has the Higher G-56 and my build date is Dec 13, 06.

Here is a picture of my 07, 5. 9, G-56 , Inferno Red , with the newer Manual trans, BIg Horn, Quad 2500. Here is the picture of the Trans Bar code showing AE at the end ( Higher geared)... .

I fanyone is interested in the White or Black 07 5. 9 6 speeds, Call Moss brothers Dodge in Moreno Valley, CA They are on Eucalyptus Ave. I believe the Black one had all the NAV and goodies on it. . TOO HOT!! LOLOL

roperteacher!!!!! YOU-DA-MAN!!! I just looked at the white sticky tag like yours and mine IS the "AE"! I was looking at the METAL ID tag instead.

This site has been the BEST place to share about our trucks! I learned about this truck BEFORE I bought and also my 01. 5. I learned that the rear disc brakes were coming and waited for it.

Thanks to ALL. If any of you need some Mercedes diesel info on '87 and earlier, LET ME KNOW. Thanks, Chris

Yep, just giving back to this site as it has taught me a LOT and SAVED me more money than I can count!! I also thought it was weird that your truck was built 3 days AFTER mine and had the older trans. Made no sense!! Which dealer told you there were only 2 left on west coast? Or maybe 4x4's then??? I know Carson DOdge in Carson City, NV has a few 5. 9's left... NOt too far from you... Had you driven the OLD G-56 before buying the new one???? If you had, you would have INSTANTLY known you had the new one w/o even looking!! LOLOLOLOLOL GLad I could help!

Congratulations!

Hope your new truck is everything you want! I waited quite a few years to afford my "new" truck. Got the white dually, but wanted your color from the start. I Absolutely love the truck! Just be careful when you receive the Geno's brochure or when visiting all the sites. Lots of goodies out there! Have fun Brother!

What got me ALL FIRED up on buying a new truck was that my family and I were up at Lake Tahoe 2 weeks ago and saw Carson Dodge's commercial saying that they had over 100 5. 9s. We went and they had 10 left and the only 6spd, 4X4, 5. 9 was a white laramie MEGA cab. They WEREN"T dealing on that one and I wasn't interested in a MEGA cab anyway.

I guess what I was saying about the only two left was that I wanted a LATE production date to get the AE trans. A friend that lives down the street from me, his son bought a 4x4 6 spd that was built in the middle of August,'06.

I went down to his house after roperteacher told me the right place to look and his has the AD trans. I drove his a week ago but didn't drive it enough to feel the difference.

I went from a 3. 54. . 69 OD in my '01. 5 to a 3. 73, . 74 OD in the '07, G56.

After I found out that I DID have the right trans... I felt I REALLY got a GOOD deal!

I wonder if the taller . 74 gears will be an easy retrofit for the earlier G56s?? Thanks

I am no mechanic but I have heard they are totally interchangable??? (AD/AE). It was funny, I had no idea that the AE even was put behind a 5. 9 until I bought mine. I test drove a 6. 7 6 speed that had it, and really loved the shift but was a little gun shy of the motor as I was replacing a lemon. I didn't need it to be in the sho for DPF issues!!! LOLOLOL SOOO, I trest drove my Inferno red and thought " Man... this thing feels a lot more free than the 06 and noticed the difference on the Tach". SO , like you I bought it knowing they were going to be in short supply and they were MORE than willing to deal on it. SO I got home and go to reading TDR and learned of the AD AE deal and ran outside to ck. . I was just as happy as you were!! And also to find out that the millions of CRACKS on the HOusing of the G56 were normal! LOLOL
