I've been trying to find a nice brush guard for my rig. I wanted 3 things from it:

1) have a car-push built in
2) able to take a winch
3) looks good

I haven't been able to find any good catalogs or sites that show a large variety. Are there any good places to check?

(new to the group!)

I recommend one by Luverne or Ranch hand. Here is a picture of my grill guard I have on my Ram. If you ever come to Texas, they sell these things by the truckload. This one cost around $300. 00 and the full bumper replacements are around $450 depending on who made it. Many come with a winch attachment, and a tow hitch.

I don't know of one that would fit your wants but I can tell you to stay away from Luverne. Mine is rusted after 2 1/2 winters and I have done everything possible to keep it clean. MHO.

How are the guards normally attached? Shouldn't they go to the frame if they're going to be used as a push?

Or is that the reason for bumper replacements?

Nemies--I have been trying to figure this out also and Reunel, www.prozap.com or Denver Off-Road(in the TDR) are your best bets--they'll take your bumper off and make a new one for you and you can have it powder coated--these are the best options I've found--I have seen another guys work (out of Salinas, CA) but don't know his name---good luck--the SPORT model makes this a little harder to do, cuz if you're like me you like the looks of your truck and don't want to change it too much--chris

I bought smittybuilt and they bolt to the frame. They also make "nerf" bars that have extra support. My expierence is that most flex when you stand on them, Smitty's don't. They also make the brush gaurd in a modular form. that's kinda nice to be able to remove parts of the brush gaurd when you are working on the motor. If you decide to go with them let me know I have a good contact.

I think my problem has been finding a good solution that has both the winch AND the car-push. Most of the bumper replacements don't have a car-push at all.

Do you have any links for the smittybuilt?

I f you are willing to spend a little more cash, Ok, a lot of cash, $1300, the Reunel bumper/brush guard is an excellent piece. the bumper is maade of 1/4 plate steel, the vertical plates for the brush guard are 3/8 plate, teh headlight guards are 1" solid shafting. It has a winch mount and access ports. The combo weighs 330# without winch.
Of course this is a biased opinion because I really like mine

Nemies,

You are probably right that winch and car push are mutually exclusive. I have a Warn 6. 6 grill guard. It is made for a winch, extremely rugged, and it looks great. No good for pushing as it will do damage. It might be modified for pushing by welding some plate and attaching some pads. This might be an approach to consider. My main reason for having a grill guard is to protect my investment from the mega fauna (wild and domestic) that hangs out on my local hiways.

Here is my solution. Let me know what you think. I made this myself when I couldn't find anything that met my requirements. Its main frame is 4" channel bolted to the frame in 6 points with 12 bolts. It requires no drilling or cutting (no hack and slash needed) and can be installed in less than 30 minutes. The front bumper face is made of "D" shaped dock bumper material (made to have a semi hit it 20 times a day). It has provisions for a winch, sorry for the white out on that part (can't show that until I submit my patent application). The brush guard is schedule 40 pipe that follows the shape of the bumper. I was thinking of making more if anyone was interested. Any constructive comments would be appreciated.

Hm, looks like a good application for the push/winch combo. I'm not sure if your picture shows off the guard design well enough, though. I can't tell if I like that it follows the dodge target grill pattern. #ad

With the white-outs, I can't tell if you have tow hooks on the bottom? That would be a nice addition.

HMMM, interesting. I have been looking into this also, yous looks good from what i can see. My truck is also a sport model ans it is hard to find one that looks good on it and works too! How much? what does it weigh? etc.

I have made one without the grill and headlight guard and I thought it looked good by itself (I'll post some more pictures as soon as I can). In these pictures it doesn't have the tow hooks on it. But since I took these pictures I put two free swinging "D" hooks off the leading bottom edge, below the rubber bumper face. If you pull upward on the hooks it cushions the chain against the rubber. As for weight. Bottom section alone is just under 150 lbs, with the headlight and grill guards as in the picture just under 200 lbs. It will be a little less on future ones, now that I have a design I like, I am going to work on optimizing it. I have basic ideas on prices but it depends on how much interist there is, e-mail me and I will give them to you.
