Archived Bucking Ram

Hello, I am new to this site, and also a new Cummins owner. I recently bought a 2001 Ram 2500 Diesel. I just had 4" exhaust installed, and when I left the shop, it seems to be running rough. When I drive light the truck runs fine, but as soon as I hit the accelerator hard it starts to buck and sputter, it feels like no fuel, or transmission slipping, once I let off it smoothes out and runs fine again. I noticed it doing this sort of thing on the highway with the A/C on a couple of weeks ago, but hasn't had any problems since until the exhaust was done. Is this the fuel pump? Or the lift pump? Or the transmission? I just read on how to check the codes, and I'll do that tonight, but if anyone has any ideas on what this could be I would appreciate the input. Thank you.

Welcome to the site. I think you are on the right path. Check pressure, change fuel filter and hope it's not to late for the VP44. Mike

Check air intake ,If straight stick check and clean AIT sensor. Drain the filter? look for leaks . Ron Bissett in Metro Louisville KY

Thanks for your help guys. The truck ended up dying at the mechanics shop. They replaced the lift pump. He told me I got lucky and didn't fry the VP-44. Truck seems to be running well now.

So now you have a reason to get gauges! Glad she didn't leave you stranded. Was the repair done under warranty? Mike

No the warranty is long gone. It would be ok on the year, but it's got 160,000 miles on it. Your absolutely right, I'm going to install guages very soon, I'm thinking Fuel pressure, Pyrometer, and boost guages.
