As you can see from my signature, I spend all my time on the 3rd gen forums but read the magazine cover to cover.
My buddy has a 2000 2500 4x4 auto. He had the light throttle engine shutter, trans hunting issue. Spent the big bucks on a new APPS assembly based on a TPS trouble code but this did not fix the problem. Then through the benefits of my TDR magazines, he proceeded through the list of cleaning all grounds, all connectors, foil around the alternator charge cable, adjustment of the TPS and finally a noise filter on the TPS signal line to the trans module. After this, the truck ran great and he didn't want to get rid of it anymore. That was about a year and a half and 60K km ago.
Recently the truck has been acting up, a code check revealed TPS, and a subsequent check of the TPS calibration revealed that it had drifted lower. He couldn't adjust the TPS back to the calibration set point, so he installed the old TPS and the truck is running fine again.
Both he and I remember reading some articles about replacing just the TPS instead of the whole APPS to get a new TPS. He would really appreciate some directions to the possible threads that discussed replacement of the TPS only, proper calibration procedure, and potential vendors of this replacement TPS.
Apologies for the long post and advanced thanks for any assistance.
Regards, John
