Friend of mine has a 04 3500 dually.

Truck is primarily stock... it has a K&N full intake kit & 4" turbo back exhaust! he has ridden in my 04 6. 0 PSD, 01 7. 3 and both my cummins trucks an 06 & 98 12 valve. ALL had noticeable more whistle to the turbo than his. The jealousy finally has gotten to him and he asked if I could help him get more of that manly turbo whistle... :-laf

I took out his silencer ring on his turbo and he didn't notice much of a difference. He talked it over with his wife and she gave him a $2,000 budget on what he can do to his truck to get more HP & whistle. Where should I lead him to buy?:D I figured smarty & aftermarket turbo? The truck takes him to and from work were he does very little pulling.

Get him to get an AFE Stage 2 kit witht he new Pro Dry S filter set-up, its an oiless filter and has a big opening, even on his stock turbo it will sing like a bird.

So the filter is more than likely whats stopping the whistle?
He had a edge box the original version. It did very little for the truck and he wants something more.

Will any fueling mods on the truck put his transmission in jeopardy ? I could swear they would hold up to at least some modifications?

I would think the AFE would help the whistle the most, and you could get a Smarty and behave, and keep it on the lower levels, without getting a fuel system or transmission

just my opinion

Yes to trans trouble, you didn't say if it was a stick or auto, but any two fueling boxes will cause problems in either, clutches slip at around 340+ rearwheel HP, and autos start slipping... .....

In my 04. 5 I was slipping clutches with justa quad box turned up and playing with the rice burners. Not much line pressure in a stock valve body.

His truck is auto. Man that sucks I had no clue that the stock trannys sucked that bad! I used to abuse the horse shiet out of my 04 6. 0 PSD transmission with stacked boxes.

In his case it would be just one fueling box and intake/exhaust. Smarty would be the most controllable out of them all?
