Anyone discover bugs in their fuel tank? I was troubleshooting fuel system yesterday due to zero fuel pressure on gauge. On the inlet side of the Racor I discovered bees and other bugs. The filter bowl on the bottom had mosquitos and other small bugs in it. Problem ended up being a bad gauge but I replaced the filter anyways.

How in the world could they be getting in there? Is there a vent somewhere on the tank that I need to check?

AGREED, you need to change your fuel station... ... .

There's one in my area, pull in get out of your truck and the main fill lid is open so people kick stones and junk down there, I seen that and jumped back in the truck and looked for a new station.

I hear ya on the fuel station. I've had good results at the local Quik Trip for 7 years now, but this summer we went on a trip to SD and a few fuel stations appeared less than what I am used to. I can't figure out any other explanation either than I unknowingly pumped these critters into the tank.

Seems like they would have got ground up in the lp... .

I would stay away from that station, and show that to the manager and see what he has to say.

the LP would have ground those up. the last time you changed the fuel filter, was it still wrapped with cellophane? Bug wings are fairly delicate. I'm guessing the filter was probably was not clean.

This Racor filter is pre-lift pump - back by the tank. I've also have removed all of the in-tank filter screen junk when I put a 1/2" pickup tube in the tank last year. Filter was cellophane wrapped when I put it in last year so I am fairly sure these came from a bad fuel load. Probably on our vacation to South Dakota this summer but for sure I am going to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't reoccur. I always thought that the fuel stations had a filter on the line between the pump and the nozzle. I am going to make sure to verify there is a filter on the pump if I ever have to fill up away from home.
