Competition Dodge vs. GM truck pull off

Competition Where is Waldo ?

OK, Truck is a 98 Quad Cab Long bed, 12 valve, 5 speed. Now, this is for us backyard mechanics here. . . . so dont tell me to order up a Scheid motor... :-laf

What modifications are the best for sled pulling? Plates, turbos , injectors, ladder bars, tires, pumps, clutches, transmissions, ..... anything that you would use to modify the truck, what all is needed to build a truck that would be a contender ? Trying to think of everything that will be needed, so I can start planning. The class I intend to pull in is the Super Street. Suggestions anyone ?

What are you doing asking these people? Other than Straley, have you ever seen anyone post on here that WINS? :-laf

Just KIDDING, lol. Sounds like the bug bit you. Good deal and good luck.

after visiting the reedsville pull this past weekend it is not necessarily the amount of power you make but it is what you can put to the track and how you start off. also the way the truck is setup places a big roll. i saw a few guys with 300-400 horse doing very well in the pulls.

Are you looking at building a street class truck or a mod truck?

For a street class truck, budget buildup, go with a fire ringed or o-ringed head, stud girdle, head studs, a good worked over P7100 (Scheids), maybe a cam (regrind, its cheaper), an SFI rated clutch (SBC Iron Giant), 1 3/8" input upgrade on the NV4500, ladder bars (look up threads on here for ideas), and a large single (cheap, like an HX55 or an H2E).

Ive been looking at the 1st gen. club cab down the street and wondering the same thing. Could a 1st gen. be made to keep up with a p-pumped 12v? Its a "soild" work truck. I'm just not sure about the differences in the pumps, head flow, ect.

the first gens are not built strong enough, ive see a extended cab, long box, gen 1 diesel with mods twist the engine on its mounts, it became a slant 6 in just 200 feet. lol. Too m uch work for whats gained, start with a 94 or newer

I have a 98 QC long bed 5sp 12v 4x4 that I pull with and do quite well around here. The 0 plate has helped out a lot as well as the 35" BFGs but I have 4. 10 gears so the 35's spin well. I have a Sled Puller 66 turbo on the way so we will see how that may help. My luk clutch has surprisingly held up very well thru 2 seasons of pulling in 3rd low and it was less than $400! But I think the new turbo may need a dual disc. Just my $. 02
