AFE Stage 2

five inch down pipe?

Question for you all. I have a 5-speed and am not too into auto trannies. What does the percentage mean? Say 89% or 91%? Is that a percentage of power which the torque converter locks?

Thanks!

It has to do with the percentage of efficiency during fluid coupling. The higher the number the more efficient yet the harder it is to spool a turbo. During lockup a auto transmission should be close to or at 100%. Since DTT is the only one that I know of that uses this rating system give them a call and ask for better clarification.

and also a couple of people use that measurement , but no one measures it the same. One way of measuring (from what I am told, I'm not the expert), the percent of rpm drop that occurs from unlocked to lock TC mode subtracted from and hundred of course. So the higher the number the more power is being transferred to the ground when the auto transmission is running thru the gears (TC unlocked). 89% is a towing setup, 91% is more aggressive and 93% is a racing setup. I'd like to ride in a CTD with a 93% TC, I imagine it'll snap your neck pretty good :) .

I just changed my atf from amsoil to mercon. Man what a difference in clutch engagement. 91% does a great job of setting you back in your seat :)

Jay, I was running amsoil universal atf+4 . Much firmer shifts with the mercon.

No noticable difference in temps yet, but I have not towed since the change

FINALLY! I've always said to run a Mercon V rated fluid, its sooo much nicer. Doesn't boil like the others. The best stuff at the best price is a parra synthetic, Mercon V rated by Petro Canada. Excellant oil at an Excellat price, check into it.

Bob, when you say Mercon what number is it? I am running Dexron III/Mercon. Is this what you mean or are you talking about Mercon V.

Can you guys tell me what DTT thinks of running the dexron/mercon?Hey Stephan what are your thoughts or recomended fluids these days.

Kurt

Kurt, I was just up there a couple of weeks ago, its the same oil Bill uses. Bill has no problem with it. Its cheap and works well

Yep, when I had my Trans done they have Dexron III/ mercon in a 55 gallon drum. Dexron III /Mercon is definately a more grabby fluid, ( for lack of a better word). Used to run Amsoil in the Trans when Bill had mentioned that many users were happy with the Redline High Temp Fluid so I switched. Now it seems that we are finding out that the Redline loses that "firmer feel" after a few thousand miles so now I just run what Bill put in originally. Plus I run a bottle of Lubeguard too. :)

Fred, In which application is D/M not advised? Thanks

Bob, I believe it is in towing applications. D/M can cause TC shudder but I was told that if it does shudder then add Lubeguard till it stops. (Red bottle).
