Other than longevity and durability what are the benefits of having a built transmission (Goerend, Suncoast, Garmond, etc etc) and a triple disc TC.

I know it puts more power to the ground, but what are the other added benefits.

With my rear end gearing I would hope it would really give me more "umph" when towing because as it is it's a dog from a stop onto any incline with a heavier load.

You can have the valvebody modified so that you can manually lock your convertor down in second gear. This makes a huge difference pulling heavy..... I see you have 3. 55's so that means hard starting from a stop. Anytime you can lock the convertor it keeps the fluid temps under control. Anyway... . I would suggest that whatever transmission you go with, add the extra cash in at that time to go ahead and choose a method of manually locking the TC. I chose the Co-Pilot and it also has a method of engaging an exhaust brake.

Tighter shifts, less torque convertor slippage, lower ATF temps, longer fluid life, slight improvement in fuel economy (at least theoretical), capability of using an exhaust brake therefore greatly improved towing performance and safety, longer lasting brake pads and shoes, etc.

A tighter torque convertor will make it worse from a stop, you need to add torque to get a better launch .

I was wondering about the TC lockup and how that would benefit me. Thanks for the input and explanation.

The use of an exhaust brake is something that I hadn't really considered, but another big plus. Lord knows I was wanting one the other day.

Of course with a built transmission, more torque isn't a problem. :D

it actually works like it should have from dodge. i put myself in a position where i had to get a trans and opted for the goerend and after driving the truck with it in i would have done it the day i bought the truck had i known it was going to make it this much better. it wont be a mistake putting one in.

I prefer the goerend because they are strong but more importantly customer service for sales and tech support that.

heck i could not even get ast to answer all my questions before i dropped $5500.

i also challeng you to find something bad about dave goerend or his trans. hes a pretty stand up guy and goes the extra mile to make his customers happy!

just call him and talk to him. let him know you may or may not buy a trans and he will still tell you what to do. he might say well you only need a valve body. he will not sell you something you dont need.

You will not regret a good transmission. The converter will make a huge difference too. It will make your truck more sluggish until you add power, but now you can add the power without worry. Good luck
