2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Bullet Proof steering T-Steering Kit, anyone??

Anyone have/installed a bulletproof steering t-steering conversion on one of our trucks?



Genuine Bullet Proof Tie Rod & Drag Link Packages



They look to be, well, Bulletproof and would take care of some of the steering problems on our trucks. See below for my truck info.



Looking to see if it was worth it, if it was pretty easy to install/set up, and if the system is holding up. If you have had to rebuild any of the joints, how long did they last. How long did it take to install and was there any clearance issues etc? My truck is stock height etc.



I would get the basic "trail proof" version, which is think lists around $370 for everything.

I know two former members who both run the kits on their trucks and they rave about how much it helped. Just make sure when you do buy it you go with the grade 9 hardware upgrade to add some added insurance. If you look through former member B Kirk's readers rig album you will see the steering mounted on his fine looking 2nd Gen standard cab... ... ... . Andy

According to their website the price for a 2001 steering kit is $560. The $370 kit is for Dodge trucks 1969 - 1993.

I've been running the Thuren crossover steering (and beefy track bar) for a couple years. LOVE the better steering and I've replaced the heims once. They were loose enough to roll the balls in the races by hand (by grabbing the bar and twisting), but no lateral movement when I watched while my wifey rocked the steering wheel. I just changed them for peace of mind... The only down side to me is setting toe in sucks without an adjuster in the bar. I got a couple 3/4" nuts without the nylock so I could tighten it up, check the toe and adjust as necessary before final assembly with the nylocks. I know the heims are quite close to the rim on the passenger side with my 17" wheel with +10 offset, but it's enough. I am not affiliated with Thuren, just love the products!

Looks like I'll do the t steering with the napa parts then.

Someone on another forum said they got their parts cheaper through Amazon.com, only take a few minutes to check.

I can understand if you do find it cheaper on amazon but I did my conversion with Napa parts and they have a life time warranty. that was the icing on the cake when I made my decision to buy from them.

Yep I was planning on using ur write up as a guide to do mine. How has your system held up? Looks like you have about a year on it now?



Also what sway bar bushings are those? Like the fact that they have zerks.

the system has been great no problems just make sure you re-check your TQ on the nuts after driving 500 or so miles. those red bushings are from energy suspension and the link bushings are maxx links.

copy thanks, thats what I thought. I checked their site and they list a 30mm and a 32mm for the front sway bushings, which do I need/are better or does it not make a difference.

If I remember right I did measure my bar and it was 31 and 32 it sorta tapers. weird so I went with the 32mm. I was amazed on the ammount of gunk and rust that was under the oem one. also like many others when I replaced my end links they were so bad that I really doubt they were doing anything for the truck. I did buy the energy suspension bushings on amazon they were the cheapest just make sure you get the part number first from E-suspension due to the internet sales are not always right with parts. hope this helps
