I want to post on my findings after installing Bully Dog Step V injectors on my truck. I am not looking to bash any company, but to just report my findings. So lets try and keep this thread civil. Let me start by stating that I have been running DD Super Mental injectors prior to these going in. I liked the Super Mental injectors I just wanted to see for myself what/if power gains I would get from the Bully Dogs.

First off let me address stalling. I initially had a stalling issue when I installed the SM injectors, but with ecm reflash 18-15-00 the stalling issue disappeared. So when the Bully Dogs went in this was a concern. I am happy to announce that I have no stalling issues with the Bully dog injectors. In fact the surging that used to occur when putting the truck into gear with the DD injectors is now gone as well!

Smoke, I have seen lots of posts commenting on how bad Bully Dog injectors smoke. Well at least with the two types I had to compare I really can't see much difference between the Super Mentals and the Bully Dog Step V's as far as smoke go. Now don't get me wrong there is smoke when off boost but the difference between them is really nothing as far as I can tell.

Now for the biggy performance..... I haven't dynoed yet with the Bully Dogs, but I am scheduled to on the 14th. But I can tell you with the same exact setup the Bully Dogs create about 4 lbs. more boost than the Super Mentals in my truck. I have heard lots of formulas for figuring out how much a pound of boost equals in HP, but I really don't know what the real number change will be. I can say that I have picked up a noticeable increase in power. My truck now really lights the tires when shifting from 1st to second where before they just chirped! Now the tires even chirp on the 2-3 shift.

Personally my impression of the Bully Dogs is very favorable! I would recommend their injectors to anybody who is considering changing their injectors. Now I don't normally post my recommendations here but I think that Bully dog has been given a bum rap from guys who have not actually tried their products. Everyone needs to purchase the brand they feel best suits them..... I am just saying that the Bully Dog injectors I have are Awesome!

Great Post Doug

This is the kind of real world testing that the TDR Members need.

Thank you for your post, I look forward to the Dyno numbers.

MikeR tried to do the same testing with other injectors but it went nowhere :(

Keep an eye open for our 4" exhaust/muffler testing :)

Glad to hear you like them.

My BD IV's are in..... but so far can't tell a seat of the pants difference between them and my DD III's. They do make more smoke when running tho. I haven't had a chance to get back to the track yet, I hope to try and run on the 18th of April.

Excellent post, Doug. Looking foward seeing the dyno results  .

I've bragged about mine (the 5's that is) since their install last summer, wouldn't trade 'em.

quick question......

Do you notice any change in driving in the rain with the V's over the SM with your DTT 91%? I am not expecting it to be easy, but just how much sliping does happen, and is there a learning curve that after some time will like driving on dry concreate?

Thats where you use the COMP to defuel the big injectors.

TDK---the rain shouldn't be a problem unless you punch it(my experience with the DDIII's & BD5's), but you'll have that prob with any of the bigger injectors---the injectors are very good--they definitley seem to have more power(SOP power) than the DDIII's--I've just got a stalling issue with mine and it seems as if maybe the reflash didn't take, as I've heard that some guys had to go twice to get it to take---they idle pretty good for the most part--sometimes you might get that over-cammed gasser idle--

jetpilot---thanks for the post and it will be interesting to see the HP #'s... . chris

Thanks for the quick answers guys.

Kat,

I heard that it was still sometimes a problem with the COMP off.

Chris, thanks for the info.

TxDieselKid,

Large injectors aren't bad to drive with... . The power put down from injectors is all the way across the RPM range. Now the boxes are a different story, they produce increased power only during specific ranges.

As for a driving comparison between the SM and V's they both are no problem to drive with. When the roads are wet or slick I just turn down the box and watch my right foot.

Ditto on Doug's post. I drove all winter with the 5's and the EZ on the most aggressive setting. We didn't see much snowfall this winter, but I was out in all that did fall and it was not a problem controlling Baby Huey when the roads were slick.

OK everything is set up for dynoing on the 14th. Hopefully we will get a good comparison... . I am using the same professional shop and the same dyno operator that was used last time. If all goes as planned will try and post what the results were late on the 14th.

Mileage hasn't really changed. Now that depends on me keeping my foot off the floor though. I went from DD2's to SM's now to V's and the fuel mileage has remained fairly constant under normal conditions. Around town usually 17-18 and highway 22-23.
