I recently purchased a 2013 Dodge 3500 dually. When I drive it starting off or letting out of the pedal when I get back in it I feel a slight bump like something is catching up. Took it to the shop and was told it was the helper springs and if I had a load on it I probably wouldnt feel it. The lot that i got it from was going to pay for this fix if it was a joint. Specifically the pinion joint which is what I thought it was. I have only owned two chevy 1500s. This is my first HD. Are they full of it and in cahoots with the lot or is this for real?

Sounds like perhaps the ring and pinion gears have some play in them. My 2018 would make a clunk sound when feathering off and on the throttle. Put it in neutral with the engine off and apply the parking brake nice and tight.... Crawl under and try to rotate the driveshaft... You should not see more than 1/4" of rotational play.

How many miles on your new rig?

If there is play ,and giving him that bump. What has to be done to repair it. I have the same thing, its very slight. Have to really start out slow to even feel it, but its there. There is no clunk sound ,just can feel it .

Put it in the shop was told all the joints were good. I have helper springs was told it was the helper springs causing it and if I had a load I wouldnt feel it. 92,000.

I put it in the shop they said it was the helper springs causing it and if I had a load probably woundt feel it and paid 107 dollars for that info. I think they are full of crap

What is the distance from the overload to the contact pad?

There is usually enough room between the two that they don't contact under normal axle wrap, but maybe the PO installed something like the torklift stableloads to engage the overloads sooner.

What happens with the slip yoke is it sticks as the axle tries to rap until there is enough force to over come the sticking yoke and you get a thunk feeling when moves.
