Okay just want an update from some of you with after market bumpers, I don't seem to hear much about Road Armor bumpers, is there a reason for this? I kinda narrowed my choices (in the better financial future) to a Denver Off Road or Road Armor. So what's the review on these?

I went with the D. O. R. bumper , mostly for the weight (and the good looks :D )

I put the truck on the scales recently . My front axle was within 200 lbs. of it's weight rating . I am glad I don't have an extra 300 lbs. of steel hanging there.

Road Armor/Trail Ready problems

Let me first say that I'm not sure of all the details surrounding the Road Armor bankruptcy issue and I'm not affiliated with any offroad aftermarket company. Now then, the Road Armor guys went bankrupt a couple of years ago and it's my understanding they owed quite a few customers either product or their money back. I've been told by a TDR member that he finally got his (prepaid) product, but only after chasing down the fabricator for several months. Sounded a lot like getting the money back was not an option. I've also been told that dealing with them is best done in person and on very regular intervals until you take delivery. Again, this is what I've heard from folks who have dealt with them in the past when I was researching some rocker guards they used to make (discontinued). So, as with all truck toys, buyer beware.

You cannot go wrong with the DOR model. Mine continues to impress me every time I look at it and I've been looking at it for about six months.

JWest Bumper

I needed a bumper to repair minor accident damage, the stocker caves in very easily. John West a TDR Member builds a very nice 100# Steel bumper that was ordered, shipped coated and installed in under 4 weeks. Will NOT cave like the stocker! Thanks for the info guys, I can do more research now, coincidentally I saw "The Matrix" this weekend and there was a preview for the second "Fast and the Furious" movie and there was a part with 02 1500 Dodges sporting what looked like Road Armors, with those guards that go over the hood... .....

I seen that too :)

AliArc bumpers

We have both DOR and Ali Arc bumpers on our "fleet" of CTD's (2002 HO. & '97 5sp) There is no doubt that the DOR is one very stout, very well made bumper, definately the stronger of the two and the only one winch-ready (or capable). Having said that, the Ali Arc, made in Winipeg (Moose country) Canada, is made for giving protection from animal impacts, and cost less than a grand. Their main clients are the 18 wheelers that ply the open roads of Northern Canada who sometimes have multiple run-ins with large 4-legged creatures in a single day, so they too build a stout product. I further reinforced their 1/2" thick aluminum mounting brackets on mine with a second pair of 1/2" thick brackets which I fabricated in the home shop. Check them out, too:

A freind of mine bought a Road Armor about a year & a half ago for his 99 Ram and it looks sweet and very stout, just a little pricy for me.

Silver star

I went with the bumper from Silver Star mfg out of bend Oregon. They are a lot cheeper and i think they are a higher quality bumper. You can check them out at SilverStarMFG.com. The guys name is Mike, he is frendly to deal with and will give you a good deal. Tell him Denis Hickey sent you

I am seriously considering the Lone Star ( www.lonestartruckequipment.com ) out of TX (Wild West series) and also looked at the Big Tex ( www.goindustries.com ). The Lone Star can be had with bumper and there was one here at an parts house, was big and intimidating, not to add very strong. Would hit a Moose (in my opinion) and not dent.

SOTSU!
