Does anyone have some plans draw-en up for front and rear bumpers? I now have my shop equipment and would like to make a new front bumper. I was a welding fabricator for a few years and could make my own plans but don't want to reinvent the wheel if someone has plans.

Thanks

About the rear...

I'm not much of a fabricator, just an enthusiast. I tried for a little while to design a rear unit. I found 4x4 Iron on the net and halted my designing. I bought an unwelded kit from them because I couldn't see being able to buy the steel and make the cuts as cheap as they offer their kit. You could easily borrow some design ideas from them. I'll fab beefier brackets than those provided, but otherwise the quality of the cuts and components is great. I've had the kit for a few weeks and I'm trying to find time to weld and install. Seems like an 8" x 3" or 4" tube is a popular starting point for the rear.

Several members have fabbed their front units. I can't offer much on the front except to say I like my Denve Offroad model more all the time. Good luck.

Track down John West. He designed a great looking bumper for our Rams and offered to send me the plans, but I wanted the complete bumper. I didn't ask what he wanted for plans, but if you do a search his bumper will pop up.

For my front bumper, I just got a large piece of cardboard(the side out of a refriderator box) and worked using the original bumper for dimensions, etc, drew out what I wanted the bumper to look like and started cutting and welding. You can see a bit of what the front looks like on page 6, issue 40 of the TDR.

I used 10" , 10 gauge flat stock which I had a shop bend to a channel with 1. 5" edges. Two pieces, one for each side of the winch, bent to angle back two places--hopefully to harmonize with the front of the truck. All the brackets, the center portion of the bumper, the winch mount and attachments is 3/8 steel, with 1" angle braces as appropriate.

For the rear I used 5" channel. The center portion is about 16 inches and is boxed so its a square tube. Then the two side pieces are welded to that with the open side of the box facing forward. The ends are tapered and boxed.

Its a fun project. This is the third truck I have built bumpers for.
