I am considering putting a Buckstop bumper on the front of my 06 3500 srw but am concerned about a possible compromise to the multistage air bag system. Any thoughts?

I didn't think the two were connected. I thought the airbag system measured the change in mometum from a remote location in the vehicle, therefore changing the bumper should not affect the air bags at all. If I am wrong I would also like to know.

correct me if I am wrong, but I thought it was a little sensor that bolts to one of the bolts on the headlights. if somehow this sensor is hit, then the airbag deploys

Well, here's my theory on it-- I think a heavy duty replacement bumper would make the airbags MORE SENSITIVE than stock. I think that the factory beer can bumper would crush and deform before the airbag is triggered. The heavy duty bumper, being more rigid, would transmit the shock of impact more quickly. The time difference would not change things much, but an impact that might not quite set off the bags stock, might set them off with the replacement.

Of course I could be totally wrong... it's happened before.

The airbag module under the dash measures the decelleration rate of the vehicle and triggers the airbag when appropriate.

Aftermarket bumpers won't affect the airbag system.
