Anyone have a fairly significant burned-oil smell in their new 03's? I can't figure out if it's coming from the motor or the transmission... the motor does not appear to be using oil (the oil level from the dealer is "OVER" the full line... could it be blow by?

It smells strong after it's good and warmed up...

Frankster :--)

You probably have the ole blow by smell coming out of the draft tube. They improved the draft tube some. At least its not blowing getting all over the fan. But they need to do better than what they have:mad: I just added me another piece to the hose and extended it back like I did no my 00. You would think dem engineers would figure it out:rolleyes: Now it they could just figure out why the check gages light flashes intermittently.

Smell?

The smell of my '03 when hot reminds me of paint burning off a freshly built engine. Perhaps it's the clear coat that Cummins applies, burning in.

I took mine to the dealer when it was smelling like burnt oil. They said it was the Cosmoline on the motor used during shipping to the assembly plant.

now guys lets not get to worried that something is always wrong. even though something usually is. this truck should be far superior to my 99... . just relax and enjoy you new ride. i know when mine come in that is what i am going to do :D

My 97 smells the same after an oil change. Infact I have about 1400 on the 03 and have not smelled the oil for awhile. It is normal.

Same with mine. Smelled for about 1500 miles. Look at the engine surfaces. They are covered with clear coat that is also burning off over time.
