There's been some recent discussion about folks buring 2 stroke oil in their CTDs on a continuting basis i. e. every fill up. The last bunch of posts were imbeded in a non-realated thread so it'd probably be nice to get it in its own thread so more folks can check out the discussion.

The curiosity I had was if anyone had been doing this for a long time i. e. years, what the mix ratio was, if the quality of oil mattered, and what about interation with additives such as stanadyne, PS, mystery oil etc?

So far I've heard 200:1 mix and that most folks at least think they're using a quality (low ash) 2 stroke oil.

Any of you guys that have experience please post so those of us that are just thinking about adding some lube to the mix can get smart/make a choice.

Thanks in advance.

I seriously doubt ANY users of 2-stroke oil - either by itself or added to a product like Stanadyne or Power Service can offer the SLIGHTEST "proof" it provides any observable improvement or protection to fuel system components - and *I* use the stuff myself!

My use is based on fully documented info direct from Bosch that diesel fuel here in the US is woefully inadequate in terms of lubricity - and supporting documentation that the LACK of lubricity seriously shortens pump life in ALL types of pumps, from the earliest to the current stuff:

I personally use a 50/50 mix of PS Diesel Kleen and Pennzoil ashless 2-stroke oil purely as a "faith only" measure to hopefully reduce what is a KNOWN problem with the fuel I must use in my truck - I have seen NO "proof", or documentation that my use of these products has any beneficial effect - it only seems reasonable. I use 1 liter of each, PS and oil per 50 gallons of diesel fuel - so far, no problems - whether it's because of what I add, or simply that my VP-44 happens to be a good one so far, is anyone's guess.

It's a lot like the guys using synthetic motor oils - they can't reallly, with certainty, make any provable claims as to extended engine life or performance - we all just pay the money, cross our fingers, and HOPE! ;) :D

I would be careful with the 927. The stuff smells great but there's a raging debate out there on how bad castor based oils (like 927) "gum up" stuff. Now, I realize that the mix ratios we're talking about in these trucks is a far cry from the 32;1 or 50;1 mix folks use in the off-road stuff but nonetheless it still may be a concern.
