I have a 2005 RAM 2500 with the CTD. I have 16K miles on the truck. I can smell a burnt oil smell when I open the hood. No visable oil leaks and no smoke from the engine anywhere. Any ideas before i take in into the shop? I just changed the oil yesterday but did not spill anything, and I do not remmebr the smell before I changed the oil.

what kind of oil did you use? alot of oils you will get this smell from for about the first 200 miles after an oil change. i know my amsoil smells after i change it.

I used Shell Rotella T 15/40. I ran it in my Super Duty for 200K miles with no issues and had 3 gallons left over so i used it up (12 qts).

Everything is running fine it just has a burnt oil smell like it you spilled som on the exhaust piping and it needed to burn off. But there are no leaks and no stains. I am going on a trip to North Carolina (Outer Banks) in the morning and figured i would ask on here to see if something was wrong.

from what i have read the rotella t has the worst smell of all. do a search for oil smell you will be busy all night :D
