Have an '03 HO auto with just over 1,000 miles on it. Still getting a smell of burning oil when the truck is running, and when standing beside it. Anyone having a similar problem?

Probably the crankcase vent; tube down near firewall. You're smelling the solvents and aromatics in the new oil. It'll stop stinking after awhile until next oil change.

Mine took about 4000 miles after I bought it. Now only takes a few hundred miles after an oil change but I still get a whiff once in a while.

If you extend that hose farther back you should get rid of that smell(or 99% of it). Thats one of the first things I did to mine. They come up with a better idea at least its not all over the front of the engine and fan now but they can do better.

I had the same problem for about the first 2,000 miles. Dealer told me it was a protective coating on the engine and would burn off. He must have been right since I have not smelled it since and have done three oil changes and have about 8k on the rig. Give it some time.

Dealer told me that it was normal due to the breather tube. Changeing out factory oil helps, but was told will always smell unless tube is moved. Got 7k on mine and smells like the day I bought it.

Mine came from the factory with a plastic pipe that extends down almost to the frame. You would think this far enough to prevent the smell for backing up but odviously not so. I should have kept my mouth shut though becouse the wife did not notice it until I mentioned it to her. Is this the same way everyone elses is run? I am going to look at getting it turned back further to the rear to see if that will help. I only smell it after being at a stop and then taking off. It goes away shortly after take off.

When my truck was new I thought it was oil. I have not had the smell since the ODO read 3000 ish, and have made no modification to the breather tube. Like Photoman, I believe it is the protective coating on the engine.
