12 Valve Lost fuel on the overpass

Stop light switch and wires melted about 8 inches up the loom. Grnd wire (BLK/GRN tracer) melted insulation all the way up to the back of the guage pod. Sorted wires, spliced new connector in yet still no brake lights nor turn signal or flasher. Flasher relay replaced, 20 amp fuse replaced under hood. Where else do i need to examine? Is there another fuse in line somewhere that I'm missing? Any nudge in the right direction is appreciated. As a side note, I got a connector from a 97, wrong connector obviously, however, when i wired it in and then tried a stop light for a 97 the brake lights activated. But when I tried turn signal it would cancel the opposite side I believe. Somebody with more knowledge than me please send me in the right direction. Thanks

Truck has a homebuilt flatbed with round farm style plug in lights. I have owned the truck for 8 mo or so and all lights have been functional until the stop light switch burned up.

I asked because I had a Leer topper and the LED brake light mounted in it failed and burnt the wiring to it and the wires between where it was spliced in up to the left rear brake light. It melted all the insulation off the hot and ground wire. It had been on the truck several years, too.

Sorry there'll most likely be an easy fix. Start with wires fried at brake switch and hand over hand to where ever they lead till you see something that makes sense. Pinched between clutch/auto shift linkage or brake pedal. Electrical is a PIA but take your time and you should locate issue. If you don't have time or just hate electrical, it'll cost ya to take to an auto electric outfit but they'd more than likely be able to fin and fix quickly. Thought, check trailer light receptacle wires and other back lights. Sorry couldn't be more helpful, did I say "I hate troubleshooting auto electrical issues?" No I didn't but then, I just did. Good luck BnBs.

Thanks for the replies, bit the bullet, pulled the drivers seat so i had room to maneuver and found the problem under the dash. New stop light switch and piece of wire loom from the salvage yard and I'm back in business. Thanks again for the replies and suggestions.
