I ran the truck about a mile this morning. It ran perfectly. I parked for 45 minutes & when I started out again the motor would sort of burp like I'd blipped the throttle. Light acceleration & at low speed cruise. The idle seem normal. Stopped with the clutch in I tried reving & holding at around 1200 rpm. It burped a couple of times. The tach would bump up a few hundred rpm & settle back down. Any Ideas what's happening?

This is not looking good. I just tried driving. got less than a mile & it got very erratic. CEL & check gauges came on went off the heat gauge pegged to the top & went back down. Smarty showed 10 DTC's. 0238, 0563, 0175, 0577, 0606, 0343, 0118, 0113, 0236, & the one not to worry about, the 1693. One of those is ECM failure. :{

Different list of DTC's this time: 0577, 0606, 0345, 0118, 0113, 1286, 0123, 1488 & 1693. It's the 0606 that scares me. That's the ECM failure. I talked with my local mechanic. he's got another 2nd gen truck there with the owner scouring e-bay for a bargain ECM. They have already checked the salvage yards any where near here. Any one out there with a spare ECM?

I bought a PCM from them for about half of dealer cost. Satisfied with them so far. Comes pre flashed with mileage, etc.

They are rebuilt units at half the cost of new. The ECM runs $595 + shipping. I opted to pay $50 for overnight delivery so it may get here tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks JDriscoll. I have the "new" ECM in place & the truck runs like new. I was reminded how much the stock program feels like an old dog. After my initial test trip, I reinstalled CaTCHER #9 with my Smarty & still no trouble codes.

Why do you think it went out?? I had the same thing happen to my truck a year ago, exact same symptoms. I got a computer from auto comp exch. Truck ran great til last week. Monday I got the burp once and though here we go. Yup, on tuesday it did it again and wednesday got worse, thursday the check engine light and gauges started to act erratically. Glad I got the lifetime warranty on the ecm. I just dunno why it happened? I had a problem with the alternator last year before it went out. Had that rebuilt and then the ecm went out. I went thru all my grounds. Could the alternator be the culprit? Could it be my ez? What's the common link for all of us that had this happen? Or is it just a coincidence? I had it parked all winter, batteries were charged when I started driving it and I had been driving it for a little better that a week when it went out. Any Ideas? Or do I stick another one in it and hope for the best? I hate to bring it to a dealer becuase they're gonna want to replace the ecm and I can do that for free, I just don't want it to happen again.

I don't really know. This ECM sat in a local salvage yard for almost 2 years after I rolled the truck. When the truck was resurrected a year & a half ago it ran fine. It's now got just short of 100,000 miles on it. . The problem could be as simple as a bad solder joint on the circuit board or a fried resistor.

When mine went out, it threw codes for the MAP and IAT sensors. I replaced the sensors, and still had the codes. I checked all the grounds, and the voltage going to the ecm was within spec, so I replaced the ECM and everything has been fine since.
