Bush should insist votes be counted

I think the first thing Bush should do as President is to insist the vote be counted as soon as the Fla legislature come up with a fair standard. I believe Bush would win such a recount and then the only criticism would be about the standard. I think the vast majority of people would agree with a fair standard. In the unlikely event that Bush would lose a recount he will be no worse off since the liberals will be carping for the next four years anyway. Also, most people would give him credit for doing away with speculation and trying to be fair. I feel that by going on the offensive, and insisting on a recount he would shut up some of those loudmouths. Anyone share this opinion? Tom

Only recount them if they're going to recount VALID votes and actual holes. None of that 'voter intention' crap.

Not a chance. that is not only revisiting a problem that we are past, but does so intentionally looking for trouble.

Now, if Bush wanted to establish a national standard for counting ballots or a standardized system for voting, that would be an excellent idea.

That would no more settle things than they are now. The count outcome will depend on WHO makes the subjective guesses on the meanings of the unclear, and how accurate they are on the clear.

It's best to leave that one alone. It's been done and redone, and the numbers are the most accurate we can get.
