I had to replace an exhaust manifold because it blew out several gaskets and broke off an ear and two bolts.

So now the flange(s) on the head the manifold bolt against are broken... ...

Any idea why????

This bus will be semi retired this winter, so I doubt a head will be installed *IF* I can get this to pass the strict state inspection :{

BTW most of the 12 valve (school bus engines) break off the manifold bolts. First time I have seen the head break.

The manifolds are different than the Dodge so a three piece isn't going to be available... ... I don't think they are. :eek:

The shrinking manifold syndrome :mad: The bus has more of a rear turbo mount correct? Haven't seen one for a while but I would take a look at the 3rd gen ats... ... ..... might be doable

12 valves that get alot of hot/cold treatment can break the "ears" off of the head where the manifold bolts up. Some folks weld them up but I would replace the head, especially with all of the cheap replacements that are on the market. Our local machine shop sells completely assembled 12 heads for 895. 00 with a head gasket.

Yup, shrunk manifold. I had a head that had all the ears busted off. Took it to our local machine shop and they got 'em back on. $250 and the head is on a truck that gets run every day. And it's not a stock truck.
