Power of Grease...to run your CTD...

Made my second batch of bio/freedom diesel this weekend.

Just for kicks on my trip Friday from Cleveland to Chicago, I ran b50. 17. 9mpg doing 70-85 on the overhead, which is typically off by . 5 when I hand calculate. Smooth running and no stink. I will stick to b20 though because of the cost and winter factors...

It is raining here so can't get the manual in front of me but i thought i read something in there that running bio would void the warrenty on the motor. I may have imagined it but does any one know for sure?

Side question

Also to make sure i understand this correctly bio burns cleaner than dino diesel and has more lub than dino as well??? The lower sulfer requirments comming up have me worried about a burned up pump.

in the owners manual, i remember there saying something along the lines that cummins does not approve the use of biodiesel in more than B20 mixture on this newer ISBe series engine. so B20 and lower is all good... .

i'd go check the owners manual, but it's outside in the truck, and i am avoiding going outside right now to keep them halloween trick-r-treaters away [i got nothing to give to them anyways]

I used to be worried about this as well, but according to the major oil refiners in this country the additive packages are being updated to ensure lubricity with ULSD is the same (or better) than "normal" diesel.

Thanks for the tread. The Popcorn thing caught my eye. I Love Popcorn. And now I think I will give Bio a try. Here in San Diego Area, there is only one Dealer, the price is $2. 69 for B20. It is on the way home for me, so what the heck. After 20 years in the Navy, Im not one for wanting to support Foreign oil. After doing the math, 2. 25 gal for Diesel + 1gal at $12 of PS mixing to get ~ 75 gal diesel. Bio will only cost me about $7 more a tank, hmmm lets keep this in perpective, I have spent more than that on a Double shot of rum in a bar. Guess I will just drink my Rum at home, better not to drink and drive, And help not support Terrorist!
