Thanks, TDR Staff

Power of Grease...to run your CTD...

Made my second batch of bio/freedom diesel this weekend.

Waited until my tank was about 3 gallons BELOW empty, and fuel'd up a full tank of B-20 BioDiesel. You know this stuff is non-toxic? It's all Biodegradable... . 10 cents more per gallon but I'll give that 10 cents to the farmers.

Truck runs IDENTICAL to normal diesel fuel, and the bonus is that it smells like Buttered Popcorn!!! Actually, it's a pretty strong smell, but it smells GOOD!!!

Only problem is that the closest station is 40 miles away.

I think over your next few cold starts you'll start to notice that the idle is smoother and quieter. Congrats on burning the bean! It definitely smells good. It's 'more' biodegradeable than normal diesel however I wouldn't exactly call it fertilizer or dump it in the yard if I could help it. . b100 that is... .

Heard on the news they are starting to sell it down here in Cincinnati area. Have not found out were yet. So it smells better. Oo.

Is there any type of conversion kit you need to make this work in your truck?? Can you mix it with diesel????

all I know is i am FUBAR'ed from the big 'ol holloween bash tonight

And I have tryed to find the b20,etc all over town and have came to none... . where can you find such a mixture in st. louis?

I have looked and have found none?

thanks

edit - I noticed i did not answer the ?, I believe there is no kit that allows you to run the biodiesel, The lower % should run ok without any change in your truck, i would guess you can mix it with diesel because it is in part diesel itself depending upon what mixture... back to to bed with me, as I am tired

i filled up on friday with B20... it's hard to swallow the "premium" charge for it [more than premium gas] but i think/feel it is the right thing to do. i don't notice any power loss, and fuel economy is almost the same [within 0. 5 liters/100km]

Don't need to do anything but open the fuel door, and start filling up. No conversion, and it's able to mix with regular diesel. Although, I wanted to get the full effect, which is why I ran the tank down to below empty(was a little worried about making it as I left with the needle on the pin... for a 40 mile drive)...

My wife didn't believe it would smell, but she thinks it's hilarious.

There is a tag on top of the pump that said 'Non Toxic' and 'Environmentally Safe' and 'Biodegradable'... maybe this has to do with the type of bio it is.....

I did also notice the truck is quieter.

If it's B-20 then I think it's only 20% bio to 80% diesel. The Bio in the fuel you got is probably safe but the diesel that it is in isn't. If the bio was at 100% then it would be safe as then it would just be bean oil. Add any diesel to it and the toxicity comes up.

phloop, Please don't complicate this. If anyone wnats to use bio-diesel at "any" percentage... ie. . B2, B5, B20 or whatever... DO IT! It all mixes painlessly with #2 or #1 diesel. You never have to worry about what's left in the tank before filling with bio. It is the same (as far as your engine is concerned) as regular diesel fuel.

Bio-diesel Forum

We really need a biodiesel forum. Some of these thread are all over the place when it comes to passing on information.

Bottom line; If you filled your truck say. . 20 times in a given year... and 10 of those stations sold biodiesel without your knowledge... . you or your truck wouldn't know. The biodiesel being sold at the pump is "all" good stuff.

I just want to encourage everyone to use biodiesel if you have a station that sells it. If they only sale B20 (20%) and you don't want to go that high... just put a quarter tank full of the B20 and get the other 3 quarters at Flying J or something... . Bingo... you now have a tankfull of B5. Even a small percentage like B1 or B2 will do wonders for lubricity.

Hey Quick69, PMGRACER here! Glad to hear you are running Bio-Diesel. Where are you buying it? I am over here in Roseville, and I haven't heard of too many stations carrying in the area.

How's the Camaro coming along? Mine is getting put to bed for the winter. Asked my girlfriend to marry me so my winter is dedicated to finding a new house and planning the wedding. Have you gotten the Ford fired yet?

Hey PMG good to see fellow camaro guys on TDR!! Bobalos is a member here too. No Ford fired yet. Making headers as we speak. That ole Marriage thing gets the best of us... but what can ya do??? Can't live with em, can't live without em. Find a good one and ya gotta keep her!!!

I just bought Bio in IDA... which is near Dundee, about 40 miles from my house. Made the trip to Cabelas right there so I didn't feel like I made a 40 mile trip for fuel. I found 3 o 4 others, all exactly 40 miles from my house. There's a place in Manchester, just west of Ann Arbor, and a couple places near lansing. There might be one in the thumb area north of you..... go to www.biodiesel.org and there is a locator there.

One other thing, my truck is much quieter/smoother. If there was a place near me I would be full time on Bio... . worth the 10cents. Although, I've been in the mood for Popcorn lately... dunno why. :D

I desparately want to run B20, but alas there are no stations that carry it anywhere near here. Closest thing is B2 down in Cincinnati, but I'm reluctant to drive 50 miles to get the fuel. :(

I like the smell of my good ol fashion toxic diesel :D

I think if i smelled buttered popcorn all the time, i would probably get fat, seeing as how i would have to stop and get some every 10 miles.

maybe eventually, the tree huggers will talk the goverenment into lowering the price on this diesel to encourage it's use, thus, giving us cheaper diesel. nice thought at least. :)

Well, maybe I'm misguided, but the way I see it that's 20 percent to US Farmers... . instead of the terrorists in the Mid east. I'll drive a little extra and I'll pay 10 cents more no problem.

I think in order for this to be a viable alternative to petro-diesel it should cost less. Here in California the average for diesel is about $2. 35 a gallon--I cannot see paying more as we are already being gouged. Last time I checked Biodiesel was about . 25 cents more per gallon in my area. We have to remember that we are still "feeding the terrorists" if there is any petroleum in the fuel. And the higher the concentration of Biodiesel, the higher the cost--over $4. 00 per gallon for B100. I'm pretty tired of feeling like I am being robbed every time I go to fuel-up. I think we shouldn't be so lax about the price of fuel in this country, as petroleum corporations are reporting record breaking profit. How is that possible when the price of crude is at an all-time high?

Sorry about any confusion I might have caused with my comment. I was just pointing out that B20 is still 80% diesel, which still makes it toxic. I believe only 100% would be non-toxic. Might loosen you up a bit if you were to drink some of it though. :-laf

WarrentY

It is raining here so can't get the manual in front of me but i thought i read something in there that running bio would void the warrenty on the motor. I may have imagined it but does any one know for sure?

Side question

Also to make sure i understand this correctly bio burns cleaner than dino diesel and has more lub than dino as well??? The lower sulfer requirments comming up have me worried about a burned up pump.
