I saw that seafish posted the Diehards were on sale ending Nov 2nd 2013. I just happened to look today and they are still on sale and it said an extra 10% off on Sear Automotive accessories. I went all the way through to the check out window and it didn't show. So I opened up the "Phone Us" window, put in my phone number and A call came through. Dealt with a great sales lady, explained where do I get the "Extra 10%" and she added it right on! $155. 24 instead of normal $229. 99. I saved $74. 75 EACH or $149. 50 on a set. Probably as good as it gets right now for prices. Thanks for the heads up seafish

NOPE!!! Not for me! I called just as you did, Motorhead. I did not get a kind lady, but someone with a strange accent. He was very stern that the $172 already reflected the "extra" 10%. I even spoke of my "friend" who, in Cali got the extra 10 taken off. He wouldn't budge! So I hung up. I guess I'll have to try again.

**UPDATE**

I cleared my cart and I did the "click to talk", and after a long hold, I was put through to a cool dude who hooked me up real fast, and I got the discount. So, to fellow members, be persistent and hang up if you don't get the extra 10%. Try again.

Wayne, Good for you. If they had told me that it was already "Figured in" then I would have told them, "Show me where!" The sale that was in effect yesterday DIDN'T have the extra 10% clause. The price of $172 said on the side that it might be eligible for further discounts. My theory when all else fails is ask for a manager. I tell them that I am a member of several automotive internet sites and that I will certainly report my good or bad experience. Plus NOW, Sears has set precedent by approving it for at least Wayne M. and myself. Ain't gonna bankrupt them to have a few happy customers!

Checked today and they are back to $206. 00
I went and picked up my batteries today. I was not so happy as they were made July 2013. So are these a saturated glass mat battery or what? Gel?

July 2013 mfg, 3 months wouldn't bother me in the slightest. AGM's (Valve regulated lead acid), great batteries, telecommunication industry has been using them successfully for years.

Thanks seafish. Those Platinum batteries are H E A V Y!!! I traded two BIG Trojan, 12 volt golf cart deep cycles so I could keep the stock truck batteries and the Diehards weigh just about as much as the Trojans.

Yes, I got mine yesterday too. They are heavy! As I was putting them in the bed to take them home, I saw one was dated 7-13, and the other was 11-12. I did a doubletake. Yup, 11-12.
I did an about face and went right back inside. They took that one aside, and gave me another 7-13. That was close. I spent a little time scrubbing the terms with electrical terminal cleaner. Now the engine spins like it has no injectors in it. :-laf

How do you know when these go on sale? other than someone posting on TDR... ... do people get an email from sears??? thanks... maybe want to get some for the next time

Go to http://www.sears.com/ and sign up on their site. Any usual holiday weekend or such, you just have to check the automotive department. These were cheaper than the set of OPTIMA Red tops I bought for my 2001. 5 in about 2005. Still have the Optimas, sold the truck. One is in a stationary generator I have and the other is in the garage for jumps, ect.

I simply looked them up on sears.com and then bookmarked the page into my faves. Then I constantly checked back. You'd be surprised at how often the price fluctuates, usually between 206 and the high price. Sometimes it would drop to 175, but the heads up on this deal with the extra 10% came with this thread. Thanks, Motorhead for looking out.

Wayne and I had to "press" the issue a bit to squeeze them for the extra 10%. It was posted but there was no provision on checkout so I called them. I got the "NICE" lady the first time..... Wayne didn't.
My original batteries are still good but 7 years old. One strong belief I have always maintained with my automobiles was to NOT tax an expensive charging system on an old or weak battery. I have read too many stories HERE about the damage people have had with batteries exploding, leaking or stranding them because they s t r e a c h e d out replacing their batteries.

I figured that i will get some next go around... before i really need them now, and have to pay full pop for them... I'm due for some new ones... thanks for all the info

I noticed my truck as been slow on the first crank in the morning, as the temps started to fall this week (over night frost, not really cold) so I jumped in on this today. Considered a set of Red-top Optimas like in my old truck, but the newer versions don't seem to get as good reviews, so I went this direction. Thanks for the heads up.

did you buy them at full price??? that is what im avoiding, buy when they go on sale, and not buy when needed... . but now that i said that, my truck might not start now

Well said Motorhead. The battery can play havoc with a vehicle. One real life experience. My mom in laws town& country started doing wierd things like throwing abs and srs lights with real strange body codes. Well I start doing some research on my new headache, when in the next day or so, it goes dead. Sure enough, overnight, the battery turned to wood. I install a new battery, and all the problems vanished.

In the Ram, the newfound reserve now shows itself with less voltmeter swinging during heater grid cycling. There's no doubt that the electrical system is much more relaxed now.

Not full price. I got the 10% off of $229 = $206 x 2 = $412 - $50 off (for orders over $400) = $364 - some "Sears" points I didn't know I had = $356. 70 plus tax, out the door. Didn't even hit me with a core charge? We'll see. A slightly cheaper alternative, Advance has their own house brand AGM batteries for our trucks out the door for about $350 after one of their on line shopping codes is applied, but the battery is only rated for 750 CCA, still plenty for all but the toughest situations, I'd think.

spoke too soon, my batteries started to get weak last weak, and yesterday they sounded like they were having a hard time...so i had to go to costco to get some......and they pro rated the ones i had so they gave me back 114 $$$....I sure was not going to pay full price for those platinum batteries...
