I am looking at purchasing either a Keystone Raptor or Play-Mor Patriot toy hauler, and since I live close to these manufacturers, I'd like to pick it up @ the plant myself. Can this be done & how do you arrange this type of deal? Any input is appreciated.

Mark. . My experience is that most of the bigger manufacturers will want you to buy from a local dealer. Not many of them sell direct. I guess you can always ask the question... :)

A good manufacturer will have a good relation with the dealers. The dealers concentrate on selling, the manufactere concentrates on building. The ones who sell direct will charge MSRP- if they discount they will soon not have a supportive dealer network and will have to "eat" thier product that will pile up on thier lot. Best to find a couple of good high volume dealers see what they have to offer. Do not buy on the first trip. Go to a different state if necessary, so if there exists a local agreement between dealers you can end run them.

Check out Rvwholesalers in Ohio. The price diffrence was substantial enough for me to drive to Ohio from NY to pick it up. I could have bought it 10 miles from my house, but they couldnt come close. Plus you get to spec it out the way you want.

I just went through this sort of thing this past week. we bought ours from an Internet dealer, RV Direct. we picked our unit up from a warranty and service place (Charger Enterprises) down the road from the factory where it was made in Elkhart IN. actually the trailer was made in Topeka IN about 20 miles.

We saved several thousand dollars, ordered the trailer the way we wanted it and the whole deal was flawless. delivery was 6 weeks.

the place prepped the trailer before we got there, filled the propane, checked all the appliances and even repaired the water heater which had a wire pulled apart on it, before we got there. they gave us a two hour PDI and then even helped me install and adjust the WD hitch before i left.

it was indoors for the PDI, plugged in and running too.

I dont know if RV Direct has the Raptor (thor?) line or not but you should give them a call and dont just go by whats listed on the website. they may still be able to get you one.

Thanks for the info guys, both sites sound favorable. The Forest River's may be better for me as the Raptor would make a little overweight.

You may want to look it Spacecraft out of Concordia, MO. They are a customs fifth wheel and TT builder. I believe its: www.spacecraftmfg.com.
