2012 or 2013?

am looking at buying a 12 or 13 Ram 2500-3500 SRW diesel. Has Dodge gotten the 6. 7 cured of most of the problems related to the emissions junk? I've heard rumors about Dodge going to a exhaust fluid treatment for the 2013 year. Is this a good thing? Will it cure the DPF problems or make living with the DPF more palitable?

The Dodge dealer in Vernon Texas offers trucks with what looks like great pricing and a "free" lifetime warrantee with all vehicles. Anyone dealt with them or this warrantee? Don't have a name of the insurance company that administers the warrantee.

My buying bug is not so great that I want to buy a truck that will be a headache. I can always buy an 06 or 07 5. 9 and be happy but I really like the new body and the larger 4 door room.

any thoughts? thanks. Joel

I like my 2012. No problems so far. As far as I know there has not been a lot of problems. Mileage is not the greatest but I like everything else about the truck except the navigation system.

The bugs on the emission components were fixed through software flashes halfway through MY08. MY09+ trucks have been good, but there is always that chance having emission related issues. I have not seen the degree of DPF/EGR issues now than first introduced back in '07.

DEF will help with not using the EGR so aggressive like Ram is using now. It also means less regens = better mileage. Rumor is 2013, but the public will not know until Ram reveals the truck.

My 2011 has never been back to the dealer for anything other than routine service. No emergency trips, no CELs, no EVIC messages since we picked it up on September 11, 2010. We're quite satisfied with it in comparison to our also trouble-free 2002 3500 HO/6-speed.

Ours is used primarily to tow our 16,000 GVWR 5th wheel.

Well, there you go... ... DEF 2013, I imagine they will bump the HP and keep the 800lb TQ.

Where exactly in that article does it say anything about the Ram pickups using DEF? All it says is,

All commercial vehicle diesel engines feature the Cummins Emission Solutions EcoFit™ Ultra-Low Emissions exhaust aftertreatment system, integrating a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). On-Board Diagnostics (OBD), proven on hundreds of thousands of engines since 2007, will be extended across the entire lineup.

which is exactly the situation we have today. The commercial C&C Rams use DEF; the consumer Ram pickups don't.

I stand correct. I just skimmed through it originally, but unless something different Cummins/Ram has engineered to meet the last round of diesel emission; 2014. I imagine they will have to use the DEF system to meet the 2014 EPA regs.

Like I said above, until they reveal the 2013's or maybe another half year (2013. 5). No one knows what's coming out. Last I read the MY12 will be produce to Dec of '12. Similar to the switch from the 5. 9 to 6. 7 in 2007. Usually that means some changes.

The 2013 release dates appear to be coming very late this year according to the reports the fleet managers have received

I really like mine so far. Didn't order the navigation stuff. I did u[grade the radio and it has park assist. the satellite radio is nice as much as I travel. I have over 18k on it since Pick-up date of Feb 22. Saw one oil change due notice is all. No problems so far. Fuel is at 17 empty. Lot's of power.
