Buying a Duramax

HOLD on there though I am keeping MY Dodge CTD (whew) got that out of the way.



SO I am needing a CREW CAB for my Personal reasons. I have been Lurking reading on the Duramax forums for a couple of years asked a few Questions.

And just like when i brought my CUMMINS dodge, I just had a deal fall in my lap I jumped on it, deal is in the works with the bank should have my new to me Duramax on Sunday.

2007 chevy silverado Crew Cab 4x4 Duramax Allison, 2500 50000 miles clean carfax no wrecks and just enough goodies to make it worth while.



I have several friends with the Duramax who work their trucks as hard as I do with my Cummins they have no complaints.



SO now i can offer a realworld comparison tween Cummins and Duramax, no more well my buddy has a Cheby and... ... ... you know the deal.



drove the truck the other day and WOW i was impressed i must say.



I love My 99 dodge CTD and I will not get rid of it for some time to come saving it just in case I am not happy with the Duramax WE WILL SEE.

I know a couple of guys that bought new 07 going out of there way to not buy the 08. From what I know the 07 is a pretty trouble free platform if not abused. Fuel mileage is pretty decent also.

If you want the aluminum headed engine to live a long life, warm it up to operating before you work it and give it a good cool down before turning off.



Starting them cold and romping on them (or any engine for that matter) is not good for lifespan of different head/block , aluminum/steel engines.



The autos are mechanically pretty tough but prone to lots of electrical issues with age and in my neckof the woods will cost much more than double to rebuild than a 48re.

My brother has an 07 Dura, he likes it plenty. I haven't drove it, but I have ridden in it, nice quiet ride. He has 70+k on the odo, no issues.

Back in 06' my brother in law came to me with a question of what kind of new truck i would buy, if i were in the market. His 95 ford was nearing 400k, and the manual transmission was about to let go in it. I stated either a dodge or a gm product. Five years and nearly 100k miles later, his 07 gmc has been trouble free, and he's happy with it. I feel you will enjoy yours also. . good luck. .

I bought the truck and will take poession of it on sunday.

the guy had 2 many trucks and the lack of things like power windows and power door locks as the druck is a WT trim made him choose this truck to sell, his wife hates the lack of PW and PDL, got a great deal and i think it will be a good investment next to my CTD they will have to learn to play together.

Granted that the D Max is a good unit (most anyway). Why buy that when you can have a real commercial diesel with the Cummins. Many co workers with them.



Not to mention the IFS on the 4WD's.

UPDATE

Purchased the Duramax. Loving it it is very quite compared to the 99 Cummins. The Allison trans is awesome. truck gets 2 MPG better mileage driving the same route as the 99 CTD. The real test will be when i install the B&W turnover ball and then go do some trailer towing with the same trailer that was towed by the 99CTD.

The Full 4 doors are nice with the 8 foot bed.

first i want to state that i LOVE my truck and never intend to sell it. however as i have gotten older and to that age where marriage and kids really could be just around the corner ive given thought to what truck i would want, and that is also a chevy. there are a lot of people around here that run them just as hard as i do and they keep up just fine. was very leary of the trucks at first but they have begun to prove themselves quite capable and reliable. i think that when it comes time to settle down i will be buying one. a 4dr 4x4 with as many bells and whistles i can get. it will be my grocery getter. good maintence, minimal mods, and lots of tlc and i think the truck will be very solid.

I kept the 99 dodge and use it to host my truck camper, I love my 99 still do but the difference with the grandaughters in the Crew Cab as opposed to the Quad Cab was like night and day. they loved the extra room in the back as opposed to the Quad Cab. the truck i purchased was without all the bells and whistles manual door locks manual windows, Manual transfer case, as I said so far I am very happy. I am looking foward to towing with the Chevy and to see if it tows as good as the 99 CTD. My humble suggestion is start looking now as the best years of the D/A was 2006 and 2007 classic with the LBZ motors. and they are few and far between with low miles.

My co-worker bought one of the first 2wd Duramax's released. He hauled a 28' 5th wheeler multiple times all over the USA being a retiree. The first problem he ever had was a water pump@ 89K. Working on those things is a chore. The pump,tensioner,thermostat and belt along with a flush and antifreeze exceeded $900 at the dealer otd. Last time I saw him the truck was going strong.



My buddy bought an '05 4wd 3500 Duramax and hauls a Lance 955 sb(way too much camper) constantly. He's got around 50K now with no issues aside from high centering all the time with the ridiculous low slung frame.

well i cant really look right now since i am in school and have many other things to worry about first. i am keeping my eyes open though looking for the perfect deal. an 06/07 is the only one i will consider. so we will see what happens. on a side note if the girl im trying to date goes anywhere ill be in real trouble. she just bought an 05 ford crew cab with the 6. 0 in it. low miles and warrenty but still a ticking time bomb.
