Greetings,I have a question about Amsoils oil return line using their swevel fitting through oil filler cap. When you drill the cap there is a spring on the inside the cap (between the two pieces)when installing the fitting does the spring remain or is it discard-

ed? Thanks in advance for any help Doc Nielsen

Doc

... . I do not remember if my 99 had a spring, but if you can get it back in the assembly, I think it would be a good plan. Wayne Owen (Amsoilman) should have the diffinitive answer for you.

My only concern with the above mod for the swivel fitting, is the apparent defeating of what APPEARS to be a ventilation point for the crankcase - does the above mod defeat that purpose, or am I mistaken as to the reason the filler cap is designed the way it is?

I use that cap on my Frantz filter - but was able to drill thru, and then CAREFULLY pass a 1/4 copper line thru the spring, and exit the lower half of the cap without interfering with it's normal function... My fitting doesn't swivel - but there's enough extra thread left above the cap to allow additional rotation for removal as needed...

Gary nice picture. Some bypass systems require a downhill ride from the bypass filter as they drain by gravity. The turbo oil return line can be spliced into with a Tee fitting or there are fittings that replace the oil pan drain that the return line can attach to. :D

JC - that's where I had planned to plumb my return originally, but wasn't sure how to get the plug out, and didn't wanna drill there - how did you do it - that LOOKS like a fitting screwed into the opening?

Oh well, at least the way I did it allows easy drawing off oil samples for analysis...

You guys are lucky.........

That is nice having the extra port cast into the block for the return. I wish my 12 valve had it. #ad

Hemi-we got one thing they don't. On the turbo oil return line there is a rubber hose about 5" long between a hardline coming off the turbo and a hardline going into the block just below and to the rear of the oil filter. You can splice a tee fitting in here to return oil directly to the oil pan. :p

Nice Pic Gary!!!

I did mine that way too, but I may add a swivel. It does make it easy to take a sample.

Custom bracket for the Frantz?

You pop out the plug with a hand tool. I accidentently pop it into the oil pan. :--) Still there. It is a 3/8" barb to smooth hydraulic pressed in fitting. Tap it into place.

Oops... hate it when that happens. ;) I would have thought that a scratch awl would have worked good. Just drive it through the plug then put something in the hole and pull it out. But I didn't know that there is no ledge to keep it from driving into the pan.
