A properly designed and maintained one will definitely extend the life of your oil and engine - if you plan long-term ownership of your vehicle/engine, they are worth using - otherwise, for guys only casually interested, or unwilling to spend the time and energy on them - or who only keep vehicles for several years before trading for something different, probably not worth consideration...

Do a search on bypass oil filters on this board - tons of discussion already under the bridge here just for the looking... ;)

we have a fleet of dodges and run about half of them with bypass filters three of the older trucks have at or over 1,000,000 miles with no bypass filter. the 04. 5 up trucks should never be ran with out one and even then test the oil for soot loading to determine oil change interval. do not change the bypass filter with the oil change, just drain and reinstall. change it only when it no longer flows oil, it filters it's best at this point.
