I have been looking a lot on the site for what bypass filter system to use. The ones that interest me are the FS 2500, Ams-oil (not sure which model to use though), and the Spinner II Model 25.



Im not sure on the Spinner II filtration because it filters based on density using gravity and dont remember seeing any numbers for filtration on it, and also I would have to figure oil drain out from the spinner on my own for my 04. 5 5. 9. But I like the idea of no replacement filters, just clean the bowl.



I have done a lot of searching but havent came up with quite what im looking for on a good comparison yet.



Any users thoughts on what kit worked best for them and why/how would be great. Thanks for the help

We sell the spinner II kits and are still doing oil samples on them... . one truck running with amsoil going on 15,000 miles and oil still looks good and passing tests. centrifugal filtering systems are used all over the world on heavy equipment and industrial applications.
 
I run the Amsoil, as far as filter cartridges go it's cheaper and rated better than the FS2500.

Spinner's are great, just usually expensive. The Spinner application guide stops at the 2002 model year.
 
Ya that is what I noticed for the Spinner but I called them and the guy I talked with said it would still work but I would just have to make it fit. They stopped setups at 02 because of all the different changes with the engine bay after that and they couldn't economically offer all the different setups.



What model of the Ams oil filter do you run or think I should run and how much are the filters. Also, does it keep your oil golden? I realize this doesn't mean all is well and I will still need to send samples but seeing the clean appearing oil makes me feel much better between samples. I also have read and been told that the additives many times will just turn black when heated, so can I maybe not get away from this on my truck?



LNaugle, I have the same questions about the Spinner II as well. Also, is there a place I can look at sample comparisons for the Spinner?
 
the spinner on your truck has mounting problems. if you want a kit get the amsoil i think the head is a bmk21 and the filter is bm110. mount it on the frame only change the filter when it no longer flows oil. the dirtier the filter the better it filters. at oil change interval simply unscrew the fill cap and start the engine if oil flows filter ok we make our own using better filters but here is pix of where

No matter what oil filter you use, the oil will always turn black after use. The black comes from "soot" which are very small particles, less than 1 micron in size. As these particles "conglomerate" (come together) they will become larger in size and a good by-pass filter will remove the larger particles, which can cause wear in the engine. The oil will still look black!
I have used the Amsoil by-pass system on several trucks, and had oil analysis done on all of them. Even though the oil is black, the reports come back with very little "soot". My last report from my current truck, had 7,500 miles on the oil, and the "soot" reported was <. 1 % Soot particles are not damaging untill they become greater than 3. 0 ppm.
 
I've had the Oilguard EPS 20 system on my truck for years. These bypass systems all catch the stuff that really does the most damage. Particles 3-7 microns are thought to be the worst, and all the systems catch those size particles.

What would be the difference in just making up a system a head and cat 2mic fuel filter like I'm getting together for my fuel system? I'm guessing they won't work the same, the fuel vs. oil filter even though they are the same rating, but Ive never heard, would it work? If so I'm guessing filters would be cheaper is the thought behind it.

Fuel filters and Oil filters are definitely not the same, even if they may have the same ratings!! Also a by-pass oil filter element, such as the Amsoil ones, have to have a reduction of oil flow. This is provided within the by-pass mount on the return side of the filter, and is a simple "orifice" that restricts the flow of oil through the filter element.
 
We have used fuel filters in the past, and they are effective but they are not long lived. A good fuel filter is single pass rated, where oil filters are multi-pass rated. There is no way you would get your monies worth, as the bypass would probably only last 5K miles.
 
got corrected, it is eabp110 on the filter. the pix i posted is of the filter setup we build for our fleet. the filter is a luberfiner 9750 the base is luberfiner lmb451. we build a 0. 032" orifice in the fitting you see in the top of the stock filter housing. go to the luberfiner site and read about the filter and you can see why we settled on it.
 
I use the OilGuard bypass as well, and stick some 52 strength magnets inside the bottom of the metal canister as well. I haven't seen anybody with a particle count better than mine. (Not bragging, or not saying someone doesn't have a better system... just that I've never seen a tribology report indicating such).

I have it on an International with the DT466 As for price I don't know the company that I worked for let go all drivers and mechanics and so they didn't need them I took some as a going away present to MYSELF. If you looked at the website that I posted they look nothing like what you see. I couldn't find a website pic that shows the one that I have installed. But I have posted a pic of it and a fuel filter that some how found their way on to my truck not long ago. I would have put one on my Dodge but I had the FS on way before I got these. The OPS1 SAYS its better but who really knows filters are cheaper than the FS but both work the same way. I think anything is better than just the OEM filter alone. I'm looking into the centrifuge oil filters just for kicks. And the Filter Magnets the Air Force used them many moon's ago and I have cut filters open to have contents checked and they grab a bunch of crap to the side of the filters. ya they run the OEM filter the picture above is the top of the filter housing the tap in the top is run to the bypass filter. Looks like the one above ran the return from the bypass to the oil fill on mine I took off the rocker cover and tapped a hole in the back and return that way.

Yes you still run the OEM filter. The bypass is just that, the oil filtered thru the bypass is about 10% of the oil, and it goes pump-filter-pan, and completely "bypasses" the engine internals. The full flow filter is still needed to filter the oil going thru the block.



No it's not a complete kit. AFIK NUC motorsports is the only one selling a complete kit with the Amsoil filter.
