With some help from a friend from the local dealer it is final, my grinding noise is the transfer case. Started out as a grinding in hi only, now nothing. But it will still drive just fine in low. Something about topping out at 25 doesn't sit well with me. Anyone have experiance with these, is this a simple issue I should try to fix myself, or just swap it out for a rebuilt one?????? This afternoon I am going to drain the case and see what the fluid looks like. Only a little over 180K on it.

I was thinkng that was the noise I was hearing in my transfer case on my 94 a few years ago. I pulled it apart, installed a new chain and seals and put it back together. The chain fixed the problem.

Well I pulled it into the garage today and dropped the case. Turns out it was low on oil:{. Ran it long enough that the range fork is now worn allowing the gear to kick out of place. I don't see anyplace where the oil leaked out, and the remainder doesn't smell to bad, so I am thinking about taking my chances and rebuilding it. If I do that I will clean out the case before reassembly, operate it for 20-30 miles and change the fluid in attemp to get out anything that might accelerate wear. Looks alot better than I was expecting.
