I'm getting ready to help a friend install a bypass filter on his 3rd gen and wanted to know which of the 2 plugs in the top of the oil filter head was best to use for the supply? Or does it matter? Is this the best place to get the oil from? Maybe someone has a better location to use than this? I've been searching on here for the better part of the day and haven't been able to find anything specific other than "the filter head".

Thanks

It doesn't matter. I don't have a 3rd gen, isn't one of the ports used to fill the turbo? if not, either one will have the same oil pressure coming out of it. The fittingo n mine that is closest to the block is a bit tight, but managable.

Both of the ports on his have plugs. One of the ports should be before the full flow filter and the other should be after. I wasn't sure if that mattered. I guess we'll just use the one that is easiest to get to.

Thanks

Here is the place to get your oil pressure source:

This is on top of the OEM oil Filter boss.

Mundgyver, maybe they are, I just assumed that they would be before and after.

Thanks for the picture amsoilman. That is the one I was planning on using since the other one would be extremely difficult to get to. I mainly just wanted to hear someone say "yes, that is where you should get it from. "

Hmmm, they really did cover those up didn't they. On the 2nd Gens they are wide open with the turbo in the one visible and the other was for what every you wanted. I ran my oil temp gage from second one.

both plugs are after the full flow filter - according to the service manual - porting oil to the oil rifles and the turbo. i tapped off the same plug as the above photo where it Ts off - one to charge my amsoil precharger and the other side of the T goes to my bypass filter and dumps oil back into the oil fill cap. the other plug is unaccessible with the tubing that goes over the top of the plug.

Thanks for the info RDietze. Neither him or I have a service manual to check against. I guess that should probably be near the top of my 'wants' list.
