Need to put bypass oil filters on My Ram and the Wifes' Excursion 4x4 6. 0L PS. Any of you have suggestions on which brand does the best for the price?

I have a gulf coast on my 95 ctd. I installed it on the rt. side frame rail. Had custom hoses made at a hydraulic shop. I have been changing the paper towel (element) every 10k, factoy microglass at every 5k. no problems so far after over 100k on the gulf coast. It is a large heavy filter, so if space is a consideration... also the amsoil filters are quite $. Had dixie chopper mowers with the amsoil be-90 filters on them from the factory, they worked fine also. I think the amsoil will filter smaller particles, I may be wrong. For what it is worth, the oil in my ctd has never been clear as the gulf coast ad would lead you to believe. GREG

If you want clean oil check out Filtration solutions www.fs2500.com. I put one on my truck last fall . My oil has 3000 miles on it and it still looks like I just put it in. Give them a call they will send you a free video on how their filter works and why Amsoil and other competitors filters just won't keep the oil clean. Nice people to deal with. Good luck, Gregg Mig

I have a gulf coast on my ford... and it does stay clear! The oil that is... . it has alot to do with the filter you use... . And by the way I love the filter!

As far as warranty the way I read the letter from Cummins they are not responsible for anything you put on your truck that isn't theirs. I have been a dealer of bypass filters for 40 years. As far as I know toilet paper is the best and most economical filter. The disadvantage of course is the toilet paper filters are small and must be changed more often than the large paper towels filter. The company I work for that has the large Cummins engines that I am responsible for has been buying me Kimberly Clark WYPALL L-30 towels. They are used for cleaning up around the shop. They have the filtering ability of toilet paper and the capacity of paper towels. They are a little smallere than Bounty Big Roll towels but they cling together so they are easy to put side by side on a table and roll enough extra on to make them slide snugly into the Gulf Coast housing. . Most of the filters I sell now are the little Motor Guard M-30 filters. They are designed to use a firm roll of toilet paper such as you would find in a janitorial supply store. I have had some nice testimonial letters from Cummins Dodge owners that change the little toilet paper filters about every 2000 to 2500 miles.

Since all Motor Guard has is small filters I manifold up to four together in parallel. The Motor Guard will filter down to 1/100th of one micron but are the most effective from 1/10th of one micron. Down to is a misleading term used by filter makers. The Motor Guard will remove enough 1/20th of one micron average soot on the first pass to turn the oil clear but there will be enough get thru to eventually turn the oil black in actual use. Even at 99% efficiency at 1/10 of one micron the oil will still turn black on a diesel engine. The MG is the easiest to change of the little filters but a compressing type filter can't take a oversize or fluffy roll.
