I put one on my 98 12v soon after I bought it. At highway speed all your oil will pass through the bypass filter every 45 minutes. Nothing gets through a 2 micron filter except oil. If you use 100% synthetic no sense in changing oil. Replace the bypass filter and the filter that came with the truck and add the oil lost in the change. Synthetic does not break down. Be sure to fill the canasters with oil before you put them back on. Otherwise you might starve the turbo bearings on initial start up. This is how the big trucking companies get a million miles plus on their engines before overhaul. Back when I drove we thought we had done something when we got 400,000 before major overhaul. This may not sound right to some of you so do what you are comfortable with. My bypass filter has a heating element on it to cook off any moisture or condensation. Change filters every 10,000 or at a longer interval if it seems OK to you. There is 101,000 on my Ram and feels like it is not broke in yet. Some guys get upset when they check oil and see that it is black. Not to worry it is not dirty. Just colored from use in a Diesel. As you drive your engine does not wear, just polishes.
