I heard they have these thingamigs called cell phones and that you no longer need to get on the CB anymore to reach people? Breaker breaker one nine come back?

Kinda hard to share traffic info, give clearance & ask a stranger for directions when you don't have their phone #.

Cell phones depend on towers, CB's work everywhere.

My wife & I went through a few streches as long as an hour that our Nextel phones had no signal when running from Katrina. Once home with no power for a few days, the CB still worked great, cell phones didn't.

I have the Uniden PC78LTW with a lil wil in both of my trucks and love it. That is the reason I have 2. The other thing I really like is the 7 NOAA weather channels and alert you can get. Even if you have it on CB you get a noise that will almost make you wet yourself, but you know if there is a severe weather warning or amber alert. :--)

There are still areas in this country that don't have good cell coverage... I have driven in places in the southwest and northwest that have not had coverage for several hours... it's a good feeling to see a truck going the other way and be able to talk with them about road conditions, accidents, weather, or just to say "howdy, neighbor!".

Plus, I use it for other things too. Some of the places I haul to, you use the CB to talk to the guard shacks, or scalehouses, to get info on where/when it is your turn to unload.

Whoa, just noticed I hit 5k with this post. :-laf
