Anyone use a Lund Cold Front and like it? Now that it's about 10 degrees here, and taking longer to warm up and get heat than I'd like, I'm looking for help. Summit has them (Lund part#26650) for $40, but before I buy, I wannna here something positive from someone whose used them personally. Thanks, Alan

cold fronts

i've got the lund stainless steel cold fronts for my 01. 5. they do make a difference on it. my ext temp sensor is in that area, behind the grill, and it typically now shows 20-30* warmer than outside air.

btw, lived in your town for about 10 years in the 70's, and yes, it can get cold.

Search the accessories section, there is a fellow member who is making and selling some for first and second gen trucks. I'm ordering a set myself. Maybe you'll like them better, the price seems more than fair.

I've been using Lund plastic grill inserts(JCW or Summit?) for

almost 2 years, best winter front device I've tried. Cost a little

more than cardboard, but works better too. I leave them on in

the summer too, because they filter bugs and rocks out from going on into the A/C, intercooler, and radiator. Every once in a

while I have to wash them off if I'm pulling a trailer on a hot day.

If I don't the temp gauge starts climbing. I'd rather have the

restrictions on the outside where I can see and wash them off.



However, if you pull a lot of weight in hot weather, you may have

to remove 1 or 2 of the 4 inserts.

I have all six of the lund inserts and only start removing them if the fan starts cycling.

I have the 4 on the grill, I think theyre Lund. I like em. It does warm up faster, but I remove the fan in the winter. Dont run the A/C with a front on.

I got a front for my Dads 1990 CTD about 5 years back. Dont remember who made it, but it's like the heavy quilted leather ones you see on Canadian big rigs. Flaps that you can open individually etc. etc. It was a bit more involved to install than mine, but on the up side it came with a bug screen to put on in the summer. He didnt really like it at first, but after it was installed, he loved it. I dont really remember the price, but I think it was more pricey than mine.

The quilted front with two adjustable openings, and with the bug screen, come in one package from an outfit named "FIA" in Winnepeg, Manitoba.



The bug screen really helped on the Alaska trip and the cold front helps on those cool mornings.

I have the LUNDs screens and cold fronts. Like being able to switch out the colds and screens as the temp swings here. Some mornings its -10°F and 40 by the afternoon.



The product by Eric is really good too, look up 1st / 2nd gen winter fronts by Eric. His are just held in by J hooks instead of the clips. I personally like the clips as I have to pull them out alot.



The only problem I have with the screens is I have to pull out the bottom 2 when towing to keep the fan from cycling in the summer.

Hey komual, this is a little off the subject, but I just wanted to say that I attend the University of Missouri in Columbia. Its just nice to see someone in the same neighborhood. Is that how you spell it? I see alot of Cummins trucks around there. I don't know how old you are or if you attended that university, but I was driving through campus (elm street to be exact) and some guys in a jacked up Chevy drove buy and gave big thumbs up and screamed at me "Awesome truck man!!". There is another kid on campus who owns a 99-2001 24 valver. Its pretty nice too. Well, just wanted to say hi. Take her easy!

Front Covers

Hi,



I have a set of 1st generation front grill covers from Eric Buckel and like them. I worked a deal out with him and made the templates for him by using the grill out of my truck for the pattern. I have noticed an increased warm up time and the temp guage doesn't swing around once the engine reaches operating temperature. I think Eric's convers are less than $30. Hope this helps.

cold fronts

it has been cold enough here in the dixie recently, to enjoy the cold fronts. finished installing the high idler this past weekend, and together, if i have to let the truck idle, it will stay warm according to the temp gauge. both were good additions.
