I have the Bully dog power pup and it does not do codes. I went to autozone today and borrowed their scan tool. Put it on the truck and it said no codes present. Go figure, I still have 0633 c-code and it wont clear it out..... help!

The smarty or smarty junior will clear all p codes and even abs codes that can be set but not even read.

The code reader is Pcode plus plain text defintion too.

Thanks

Usually if the codes won't clear it means whatever component is generating the code is broken and needs service.

I suppose a faulty ECM could prevent its codes from being cleared, but if the ECM is bad you've got a whole host of problems. Questionable whether the engine would even run.

If your talking about P0633 it is there because the VIN was never written to the ECM when it was replaced/flashed. It can only be erased by writing the VIN to the module with the appropriate scan tool, and can not be "erased".
I have never tried, but do not believe you can write the VIN with a generic scan tool.

As rbattelle says, you cannot clear active codes. Only inactive codes.

Active codes underlying cause needs to repaired first which makes it an inactive code.

How could the VIN never have been written to the ECM from factory?? p0633 is skim key not programmed or not entered. Security Key Immobilization Module, has to do with theft system and will difinately shut down engine. This according to service manual and dealer. Truck is going in Monday morning to dealer to clear P0633. We will see if that fixes it or if code comes right back, it may be reciever in steering column for the keys. Let you know

Somehow the module lost the VIN. Could be from loss of communication between the modules, downloader program, or swapping module from another truck. The dealer can't clear it, he has to program the VIN or secret key and it will clear itself.

wanted to let you know that after it was at the dealer and they changed the steering module and replaced both keys it still did not start. We told them to push it outside and we would get it. We sprayed a little ether in it and it started rightup. We brought it home and did a few tests that a gentleman from a diesel shop had suggested. We ended up replacing the fuel pressure relief valve that my wife ended up installing when the part came cause she was tired of taking me to work.
