Hauling wood on the Golden Road

Newb but HAPPY

Buddy has a '98 FL 70 with a 8.3. Does it use the same as a 5.9 ? He was qouted a price of $500 for a new one !!!??? !!! Ideas ? TIA !

There is a part number on the solenoid. If it is the original small version it will change up to a "kit" with a larger diameter solenoid and new brackets, and yes it is expensive, so $500 seems about right. The P7100 Dodge solenoid uses a unique plug so no it won't work. Dodge Had to be different.

BTW One thing that will kill the solenoids is too much cranking. For example if for some reason the truck won't fire right away DO NOT crank it for very long without letting it cool off. You will burn it out. That's why they updated it to a larger diameter.

Shad. thanks for the quick reply. With what you said is the physical part the same on a 7100 solenoid, with just the plug being different ? If so, one could clip the wires and plug and just reconnect the wires accordingly, correct ?
