My first renewal on the Ram 2500. I thought some of you might get a kick out of this.

Ouch! An I thought the $375 NY state nailed me for last time was excessive. I’m loving living in New Jersey now. My truck doesn’t require Commercial plates anymore and there is No mandatory inspection on diesel trucks as of yet. Reg was only $75 for the year. And they issued my new title right then and there. No waiting for months like I use to back in Ny.

very similar here in colorado comrades. the back of the renewal here is fee fee and more fees listed. the gubment officials figured out if you list things as fees, then they cannot be called taxes ( and then subject to the voter for repeal ). cheers!

Boy I am glad IL only charges $154 a year for my truck. This went up from last year payment of a $103. And I thought this was an outrageous increase for a vehicle licenses plate.

You can thank the California State Legislature for the increase without voters approval. The gas tax acouple years ago that passsed legislation for road repairs, also had very small print (hidden) increase in vehicle registration fees.

The roads are still in bad shape in the SF Bay Area.

In California ALL trucks are registered as commercial vehicles even if it's for personal, not for hire use. If you have a topper (Leer/ARE/SnugTop) you can tell DMV it's mounted permanently and re-register it as a personal vehicle. California pretty much sucks.... You get reamed on taxes and get nothing in return. I'd have moved away long ago but wifey does not want to go (yet). My tags say Oct 2020 and I have yet to get my renewal. I go online to DMV and plug in my VIN and plate and it tells me the information I provided is incorrect. I call DMV and after 5 minutes of selecting the options to get to the registration part.... It tells me I have 49 minute wait time! What a mess.

The other surprise I got with my renewal last month on the 2018 was "Smog Check Required". They are trying to catch the cheaters. Starting in January they are also starting to confirm software. Anyone with evidence of altered software will be flagged and will fail smog inspection. (mine was only $773 to renew, what a deal)

highest fuel taxes, highest reg fees and and and, Im not even going to go there..........
I salute those that live in a good state!

I guess they gotta pay for that sunshine and warm weather somehow o_O

For 4 vehicles and 2 trailers I just paid less than what they charged you for a license fee. Crazy!

Everything balances out in the end. If you own a house in NJ you get killed on property taxes.

If you have AAA Club they are authorized to perform many functions. The state union won't let them do more as they requested. I got an appointment for my new license with the hologram. Three weeks and I was out in 20 minutes. This was pre-Xi virus. The gas tax is tied to the cost of living which always goes up so the tax will go up yearly. Libs voted this in. They don't believe in reading the fine print.

Same here, i never received my Renewal in the mail, i went online to DMV and said my information was wrong as well. Fortunately I have AAA, walked in and the DMV people there looked it right up said yes you are up for renewal i asked why i did not receive one in the mail, they said they're is a box to check sayin one was mailed out and they said the box was not checked. I do not have a copy of mine with me but it too was right around $900 and change. for what, i have it lifted with tires mainly so i can just drive down these dilapidated roads and sit on the phone for a DMV "Agent" for 2 hours to not get any service in the end. Bu I'm not bitter about that at all. Good ol' California.

Yep Cali sucks. I'm a fifth gen native and want to go. I've driven on fireroads in better shape than our freeways lol. Trouble is they close a section down for a couple of years to "repair" it and then open it up. It's rougher than when they closed it. I guess they are trying to justify our "gas" tax. We just got the bill for registry on our 2019..over 1k. I expected it but seriously it's nuts. I'm in the same boat as R.Taylor but wife is slowly coming around.

I have AAA and the office near us has DMV services.... Going to stop by Friday. In and out service there, It's worth the membership price just for that. Going to an actual DMV is a no-go these days and even pre-covid it was a joke. But yeah... CA ain't no Beach Boys song anymore.

I'm four miles from the beach in a quiet neighborhood and a long ago paid off house so life's pretty good. I couldn't move inland. Too darn hot and I like living by the beach. I'm 3rd generation San Diegan and there's been a lot of changes to say the least. My 925 sqft crackerbox is valued at $680,000 but thanks to Howard Jarvis and prop 13 my property taxes are based on $240K. I don't know how anybody can afford to move into my neighborhood unless they had a hefty inheritance.
